Entries for June, 2002

Haven't updated in a long time.

Playshop is finally over. *sigh*

Our show was last Tuesday, June 4th, at 6pm. Of course, I had to be there early for MT2. And I even forgot to bring a black shirt with me for backstage. I was wearing a bright pink shirt then.

Anyway, we all met up in Stageworx, where my MT1 friends were. We (MT1) were all taking pictures like crazy, spots popping our eyes from all the camera flashes, while MT2 happily sat in front of the mirrors, putting on makeup.

When it was time for MT2 to leave for Cinema 1, I had to go with them. I had Ceej warm them up onstage while Myles and I signed the certificates and Wowie checked on the props. Eheheheh, since Myles forgot to bring his blue umbrella for the sower scene, we had to use my plaid green one. Nyak.

Well, the kids finally came through at the last minute. I was so darn proud of them. And eep, the next thing I knew, Myles made me call the kids one by one to receive their certificates. Nyak, and to think that I was afraid to say their names wrong.

When I got back to Stageworx after the show, I saw that my classmates were already in their costumes and wearing makeup, and all set to go to Cinema 1. Eep, panic time. I don't know how to put on my own stage makeup. Lucky Mish was only wearing foundation, and she agreed to help me with my makeup once we get to the Cinema 1 restroom. When we got there, I hurriedly changed into my costume (a pink sleeveless turtleneck that I bought the day before and my cream-colored flared pants), then Mish let me borrow her foundation while she worked on her eye makeup. She only got to lining my eyes when Lawyn called me and said we needed to practice "Points of View" one last time.

After the song, Moira volunteered to help me with my makeup. Man, for a 14-year-old model, she sure was an expert.

Well, the show went off without a hitch. It was great. I wish we could get to do it over again just so I can be with them again. We even formed an egroup just for kicks.

And now, I'm missing them all.

Anyway.

Ari and I celebrated our anniversary last Friday. We went out for a movie, then had a new studio pic taken. He just claimed it yesterday evening. I can't wait to see it.

Fair enough. Perhaps they haven't. But now that you know, you must become one with your inner self.

Virtues: You look for immense creativity and individuality in people, including yourself. You're not happy with anything less than brilliant, and you focus on being expressive. You value energy, liveliness, and upbeat personalities, but you're not supportive of moodiness when you yourself can be unreliably moody. Seeking activity, you like the bustle of business but need the secluded atmosphere of a studio or private corner.

Aspirations: You feel the need to express your talents, whether it be through writing, drawing, singing, dancing, composing, performing, or photographing. While you strive to ever improve your work, you want to display it as soon as possible when your impatience kicks in. You want to be a prodigy but you might not have the means right at your fingertips. Trust me, do NOT move to New York to do it. Yeesh!

Quirks: Conformists bother you because of their lack of individuality. You're often late or unreliable. You're showy and refuse to share the spotlight. You only tell little white lies. You worm your way into the hearts of others, but be careful; some people despise the show-offs.

Factors: Surround yourself with activity and you'll always have material to work with. Involve friends and family in your projects so they don't feel like envious outsiders.

Future: Show business or not, you'll settle down happily if you're among those who appreciate your natural talents and desire to perform. Don't stay in one place too long, and don't be too hasty in defining your relationships. Who are you to judge what only time will tell?

Well, I got my ID validated today, and I'm using Khalil's account for now until my school internet account is reactivated.

I forgot to mention a bunch more in my last entry.

I finally got to meet Oz last Tuesday coz he went to watch our showcase. Like I mentioned before, he's Mish's friend.

As for last Friday's date with Ari, we met up pretty early in UM, grabbed a bite to eat in KFC, then went of to South Mall to watch 40 Days and 40 Nights. Then we went off to ATC and I showed him these bear figurines I recently saw in Humor Post that reminded me of him. Heheheheh. We also hung around in Starbucks and had a nice long talk.

I can't believe that he'd spend a lot just for me. He's such a sweetie.

My brother arrived from Minnesota last night. My dad, mom and I went to the airport to pick him up. Arg, I wish I brought a book. We spent 2 hours just sitting there coz we arrived way too early. And the guy sitting near me totally annoyed me because while I was playing snake with my phone (heck, that was the only thing to do there), he took out his own phone and started playing with the ringtones. Jeez. How pathetic is that?

When we did see Kuya, boy, he got bigger. Well, not that BIG. Just noticably bigger, that's it. And he showed me his new MD player, so that means that his old one is mine. It's bigger than his new one, but hey, it's an MD. It's the closest thing I have right now to an MP3 player.

I had TECTHE1 class today. Sir Jay had us watch 2 DVDs of Cirque du Soleil. COOL.

Gotta go for now. Checking mail.

I'm using our new PC for the first time. Heeheehee, now this is much better. After getting used to the bigger screens in Netopia, I'm so glad my brother bought a better monitor. The downside of all this is that my brother didn't transfer my files to this PC. *sniff* Goodbye. MP3s. And I had a lot of pictures and stuff in there. Damn. Gotta get those files back.

Well, I'm still trying to get used to my old routine of staying online as long as I want. I'm still kinda adjusting. My brother's asleep, so he's not about to kick me out anytime soon, heheheheh.

I went to the dentist this afternoon for regular cleaning. Then after that, my aunt helped me choose the sofa bed I'm gonna have for my room. Before I went there, I initially decided on one with a leather covering. Then I realized how hot it's gonna be, so I opted for a fabric covering instead. The colors of the marble-patterned fabric were dark and drab, so I got a pretty yellow one with quilted stiches. Pretty. It wiped out my entire last paycheck, but at least it's worth it. I can't wait to see it tomorrow, when it gets delivered.

I wonder what Ari's up to right now. Haven't heard from him all day. Well, duh, he already ran out of credits. Oh well.

Yup, my sofa bed arrived today a few minutes before I did. Well, since they ran out of the yellow fabric that I wanted, I settled for the green marbled fabric, which worked just as well. It matched my green-and-gold throw pillows anyway. My aunt and I even moved a couple of pieces of furniture around to make more space, and then I finally dumped my throw pillows and Barnaby (the stuffed teddy that Ate Shang, my fave cuz, gave me on my 18th birthday) on the sofa.

Hmmm...I was also thinking of getting an area rug for my room so I can use it as a little lounge area when I'm on the floor. That way, my mom can let me have those two huge throw pillows we have in the living room. I've always wanted to have those in my room.

Nyak, the old interior designer in me is trying to come out again.

I'll post pics soon. I promise.

Love-a-Lot Bear
You love to take care of others and people love being around you because you make them feel appreciated. You are very sweet and soft-spoken. You are also a romantic and consider yourself an excellent matchmaker, so you tend to be a bit nosy. But everyone still considers you the sweetest person they know.

I don't feel like doing anything anymore.

I called up a certain someone earlier, asking about meeting him this morning before I go to CCP for DANFORM class. It took 4 tries, until he finally answered. He said that he wasn't coming to meet me this morning because he going to his dad's office.

Ugh, what a waste. And I was supposed to give him something today.

I guess he's still mad. *sigh*

Now I'm not in the mood to do anything at all. I don't even feel like going to CCP anymore. I wonder what I'll be doing all day. Gotta keep myself occupied. Otherwise I'm gonna go crazy.

I lost all my energy because of a certain phone call. So now, I'm just gonna hole up in the cubicle all morning until I go to CCP.

Well, I felt much better on the way home yesterday. More about that later.

So our DANFORM class went to CCP yesterday. Marie Vee, Enzo and I hitched a ride with Karla. Then we waited in the main theater's buffeteria for Miss Katrina. We were soon joined by Krystal and Rain, then Miss Kat finally arrived. She let us sit in the theater while she and the rest of the dancers warmed up. Then their class started. Their teacher/trainer is some old Russian (well, we thought he was Russian; most great dancers are) guy named Anatoly, and he spoke really fast. We could hardly understand what he was saying, but we caught a lot of familiar ballet terms as he spoke.

Man, we sat there for 2 hours, and that was only their warm-up! Miss Katrina let us go then. So all of us rode back to school in Karla's car. Lucky it was only past 4, so I could still go home with Ari that day.

Ari and I had a nice long talk in the bus, and I gave the the letter I was supposed to give him that morning. I felt much, much better. He's the best.

Luv yah, hon.

I met up with Rosa and Iam after lunch yesterday in South Mall so we can have studio pics taken for Rosa's yearbook. Heheheheh, no matter how long the three of us haven't been together, it always feels like we just saw each other the day before. Anyway, since our pictures can be claimed tomorrow, I volunteered to claim it. I can go straight there instead of going straight home. Heheheheh, I'll be the first one to see the pictures. ^_^

At that time, I still didn't know who I'm hitching with to go to Anna's house for the cast party, coz Jamie hasn't replied yet (I sent him a text message earlier that day asking if I could ride), probably coz he's still at The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe rehearsals or something. I finally decided to text Luis, who'll be going with Shan and Lawyn to the party. So when I got to ATC, I went to meet Shan and Lawyn at the South Supermarket after I got a black forest cake from Red Ribbon. Then Luis arrived, and we shopped for other food to bring. We ended up buying frozen French fries to cook at Anna's house, then a package of instant sisig that we decided to cook and eat for dinner at Lawyn's house. Luis even helped me choose a bottle of red wine to give my dad for Father's Day.

We then retreated to Lawyn's house and cooked the sisig. Wow, for something "instant", it sure tasted great. I think I'll buy some of those for myself. Who doesn't love sisig anyway? ^_^ I know we do. ^_^

We went up to Lawyn's room for a while to hang out, listen to Broadway CD's, thumb through souvenir programs, look through picture albums, and freshen up. Heheheheh, Lawyn, Luis and I ended up wearing the same color, blue.

It was already 8:30 when we left for Anna's house, and the party was already in full swing by then. Wow, even Tito Audie and Tita Menchu made it to the party.

Well, the party was pretty OK, but the younger kids enjoyed it most of all. They were all dancing and stuff in the living room while the rest of us older kids sat out in the side lawn with Tita Menchu and Tito Audie. When I hooked up my video camera to the small TV in the living room, everyone else crowded around to watch it. Heheheheh, everyone's favorite were the shots of the "hula-hoop tournament" that Jamie, Chevy, Karl, and Eric had during that late-night rehearsal, and Jamie's choreography of "The Lamp" chant from Godspell. Waheheheheh.

We even got Tita Menchu and Tito Audie to sing a couple of Miss Saigon songs, after 2 hours of their refusal. ^_^

Anyway, when everything else was settling down, a bunch of us older kids looked forward to our favorite part: bonding during late-night till the wee hours of the morning over coffee in a coffee shop. We decided on going to Seattle's Best Coffee in Festival Mall this time instead of the usual Starbucks in Madrigal Avenue, probably coz they got kicked out there the last time (too bad I was there).

So there we were, gathered around 4 tables pushed together, just talking and joking around. There was me, Lawyn, Shan, Karl, Luis, Menchu, Jun, Ecel, Jamie, Thea, Alex (Duque), Mikki, Bea, and Reg. First they wanted to grill the "new" ones (including me, coz I wans't there last time) who their Playshop crushes were. I got away with saying no one, much to their disappointment, coz they never accept "no one" for an answer. Heck, what would I say anyway? I really wasn't interested in anyone.

Then what we decided to do was go around around the table and give our first impressions of each other. We took turns being in the hot seat, and when it was my turn, I wasn't surprised at what they said. Most of what they said meant the same thing, that I was a simple girl. Been there, done that. When we did it last year during our brainstorming session of the script, I got the same responses. My favorite was from last year, when someone said that I was hard to read. It was the closest they ever got to the real me. Hey, I didn't get any negative response from this year. It was funny how surprised the rest were when they found out that I knew Lawyn when she was in 5th grade and I was in 7th, and when I knew Mikki when he was in 3rd grade and I was a sophomore.

The night's over. Back to real life.

Heheheh, check this out. My Ya-Ya name is "Princess Silent Breeze" according to the Ya-Ya Name generator. Anyone wanna comment on that?

When I was on the bus home with Ari yesterday afternoon, my rang. It was my mom, calling from my brother's phone. It seemed that we were both on the same road (Roxas Blvd.) and she was asking where I was. I told her that I was already on my way to South Mall (I asked her permission the other day to go and claim the studio pictures). Then the call got cut, and I panicked. What if my mom and I were on the same bus and she saw Ari and me together? Lucky she called again, and she said that she was already in Coastal (I was somewhere in Baclaran).

*relief*

But then when Ari and I got to South Mall and was eating dinner at KFC, my cousin Kuya Butch comes up to our table to say hi. Yikes. I had no choice but to introduce him to Ari. When he left, I immediately sent him a text message not to tell anyone about it, because of obvious reasons. Well, since he and Ate Shang used to do it all through out their high school and college lives, I know he can keep a secret.

6. Where is the most significant place of your life?

I just read what I wrote earlier for PinoyBlogger's Seven Shots on Wednesday. I've always wanted to travel, but I never could. I remember telling myself several times that I'll travel once I get out of school.

Hey, Karl's online. Just told him about the backstage thing to Trumpets'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for my LIGHDES class. Arg. Part of me wants to go, but for some weird reason, the other part of me doesn't want to.

Here's a link, courtesy of Karl. The world's smallest website. Prepare to be amazed. *whips out glasses*

Time for Friday Five.

1. Do you live in a house, an apartment or a condo?
I live in a house, though I'd love to live in my own apartment or condo.

2. Do you rent or own?

3. Does anyone else live with you?
My 'rents, my brother and my aunt.

4. How many times have you moved in your life?
Just once, to the house I'm currently living in for 19 years, but I was too young to remember it.

5. What are your plans for this weekend?
Saturday's just for bumming around. Tomorrow (Sunday), Krystal and I are gonna watch a ballet called Balanchine that my DANFORM teacher is gonna be in.

Lawyn and I met up in school yesterday so we could go to G4 to meet Shan and Luis there. The two of us had lunch and then hung around with her blockmates for a while. Luis managed to catch up with us while we waited for Shan to arrive. We ended up watching a movie Luis' cousin's boyfriend recommended, Monster's Ball. It's not really my type of movie.

We rode in Luis' car to Starbucks in Madrigal, Alabang, where we were meeting Karl and hopefully, a bunch of others. But we went to Luis' house first so drop off his driver (so Luis will be driving us to Alabang). Wow, Luis' place was really huge. It was this huge lot with a huge pool and a huge house. Wow. Anyway, when we got to Starbucks, Karl was the only one sitting in the couch, and he told us that everyone had to cancel. Finally Thea called him, and told us that she'll catch up with us. Since it was just us, we decided to hang out at Lawyn's house when Thea arrives.

But then Lawyn gets a message from her mom that she needs to go home and talk with her, so Luis and I bring her to her house while we leave Shan and Karl to wait for Thea (heheheheheh, whatta setup on Shan. *grin*). After dropping off Lawyn, we headed back to Starbucks. Thea was finally there, and we just sit around on the couches, just talking. Then finally we were relieved to get a text message from Lawyn, saying that we can still go there.

We ended up staying in Lawyn's garden house, which was really cool. We just sat there, talking about anything we could think of, until 1 in the morning.

Something was bothering me, though. Karl mentioned that he thought Ari sounds like a know-it-all the first time they met. He said that he just had to tell me about it. Oh well.

My brother left for Chicago early this morning. That means I'm an only child again. He'll be back by December, I think.

My mom told me this morning on the way to church what my brother told her. It was about his US bank account. My mom always bugs her how much is in his account, but he wouldn't say. As it turned out, most of the money in that account is for me, to pay for my school tuition. Aw, my brother's actually sweet.

I'm watching Balanchine at CCP with Krystal later. Marie Vee said that it's really good.

Krystal sent me a text message while I was getting ready to leave for CCP, telling me that she won't be able to make it to the show because she wasn't feeling well. Oh well, I still wanted to watch, plus my dad offered to drive me all the way to the theater.

Well, when I got there, I had no idea where to buy tickets, and even where to enter. Lucky that when I got out of the car to ask a guard these questions, I saw Enzo at the same entrance with his brother, sister, and mom. I was wondering earlier what the line was for, but then I found out it was for depositing cell phones. Mrs. Marcos* even let me have my phone deposited in the same bag as theirs.

Anyway, when we reached the lobby, we finally found the CCP Box Office, where we're supposed to buy our tickets. Goody I brought my school ID, because I got 50% off my ticket. Enzo's mom asked me about it, so she went back to the booth (she bought tickets before I did) and got the tickets half price as well because of Enzo (though I knew that he didn't bring his ID). Anyway, my seat was more to the center and closer to the stage than theirs, I got to sit apart.

The show was really good. What surprised me was that Mitzi, my batchmate from Zobel, is actually with the Philippine Ballet Company. Wow, that is so cool.

Oooh, Ed's online. Nyak, he's in idle mode. Oh well, maybe later.

Even though he's on the other side of the world right now, we talked as if nothing had changed. He's the guy I'm closest to in my clique, so I always tell him everything like I do to Rosa and Iam.

Anyway, Ed's coming back to Manila for a visit in two weeks. I can't wait to see him. It's been more than a year since I last saw him.

I got an offline message from him earlier, saying that he hasn't forgotten about buying the phone. That was it. He didn't sy that he already bought it or not. I'm supposed to go to Greenbelt tomorrow to meet Sir Shax (my LIGHDES teacher), Ace, Lei, and Zards for Martin Nievera's concert at the Onstage Theater. We were gonna observe the show for an hour then it's up to us what time we'll leave.

So what's wrong with a free entrance to a concert? Nothing really. There's just something bugging me.

My parents are insisting that one of them goes with me to Greenbelt. Arg. They're always like that. They still treat me as if I'm such a kid. If this keeps going until I graduate college, I have a feeling that I'll never get a job in theater or anywhere related to the biz. In the theater business, it's normal to be out until the wee hours in the morning, working. But my 'rents refuse to see that. Jeez.

And as for tomorrow, they want one of them to be a chaperone, which is the last thing I need right now. It's not that their crimping my style. But Sir Shax is still looking for 3 students to work with him in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, and some of the factors include one who can stay out late, and doesn't have strict parents.

I'm gonna have to work someday, but my parents still don't want to let me go. Talk about a big case of empty nest syndrome. I can't wait to get out of here.

Seven Shots on Wednesday: "A Room of My Own"

7 questions about your room:

1. What does your room look like? Is it clean or messy?

My room pretty messy. It bugs my mom, who's obsessive-compulsive about being clean. I used to have a twin bed in my room up until a few weeks ago, when I bought a sofa bed with a green floral print fabric that matches my throwpillows perfectly. It's between my full-length mirror and an antique night table. My old school stuff are stacked in a pile in one corner and my schoolbags (I have different bags depending on the day's mood) are next to it, as well as an old glass center table from the living room where I put my other school stuff and miscellaneous. Along the wall opposite the sofa is my TV and mini-component (one that used to sit in my dad's apartment in Jeddah), with my collection of old cassette tapes and Broadway CDs, as well as lotsa books to satiate my boredom.

2. What posters do you have on the walls? What else do you have on your walls?
I just have one framed poster of a sleeping kid beside a golden labrador. I keep it on the wall because it says "The future belongs to those who dream" along the bottom. Other than that, I have a wall clock that's set half an hour early. ^_^

3. What color are the walls? Is there wallpaper? If so, what does it look like?
Nah, I don't have wallpaper, just off-white walls. Pretty boring, I know.

4. Do you have toys, models, figurines, or other collectibles in your room? Like
what?

I was supposed to have a little stuffed-toy exhibit in my room before, but then I had that big bed. Maybe now I can do that. As for now, I have old magazines from my teeny-bopper days, old Archie comics, and angel figurines. Oh yeah, and I also have a scale model of a fantasy set that was my final project in TECDRA2. A lousy attempt at designing The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in springtime.

5. Whose pictures are on your desk/dresser/night table/whatever?
Right now, I have a studio picture of myself, as well as pictures of my 2 best friends, Iam and Rosa.

6. What's your closet like? What do you have in it? Okay, besides your clothes, what
else?

Wow, my closet's a mess. Other than clothes, I have old makeup, old jewelry, and other accessories, such as hats and scarves. There's an old shoebox with old pictures, as well as negatives to all pictures I've taken. A teeny kiddie chest of drawers is also in there, given my by cousin Shirley when I visited her in Washington. That's where I stash the money that I keep for a rainy day.

7. What "goodies" do you have hidden in your room?
There are pictures of my boyfriend along the back wall of my closet, cleverly concealed by my clothes and the chest of drawers. ^_^

Now for Friday Five.

When was the last time you...

1. ...sent a handwritten letter?

A couple of weeks ago. It was for my boyfriend. I'm working on a couple more this weekend. One is actually a retreat letter for Kitin. Her retreat will be this Wednesday until Thursday.

2. ...baked something from scratch or made something by hand?
The last time I baked or cooked something was last summer, when I was bored one early afternoon that I decided to make French toast.

3. ...camped in a tent?
I've never camped in a tent before. When I was in third grade, my mom didn't even let me join the Girl Scouts' camping after my investiture.

4. ...volunteered your time to church, school, or community?
Wow, it's been a pretty long time since I did that. The last time was November of last year, during the YFC Campus Conference. We went to this rural place near my village and we got to talk to the people there. And we all had fun.

5. ...helped a stranger?
Wow, I meet a lot of strangers that I lose track of this one.

Halfway on a bus to Makati, I got a text message from Zard, telling me that Sir Shax called him and said that our group will be postponed for next week. Arg. I told this to my mom, so what we did was we got off the bus when it turned right from Roxas Boulevard to Buendia Avenue. We decided to go shopping in Baclaran instead so our afternoon wouldn't be such a waste.

My mom loves bargain shopping in Baclaran. And she knows how to deal with the shopkeepers there. I was lucky she went with me coz I don't know a thing about bargain shopping. The last time I did in an ukay-ukay (thrift shop) in Baguio, I had Joanne with me.

So anyway, since my mom knows the twists and turns in Baclaran, she knew where to go. I was just following her blindly. After almost an hour of looking through everything, I managed to get 2 pairs of pants (one black and one grey), a black cardigan (I've been looking all over for one, but I couldn't find one that I really liked), two pastel sleeveless shirts (the ones that look like my black "Laya" shirt, which, by the way, means "free" for those of you who dont understand Filipino), and one beige-colored blouse.

Oh well.
