Entries for December, 2002

Well, after being cooped up at home for 4 days straight, and spending 2 of those days in bed, it sorta felt good to go back to school. Good thing my head isn't throbbing anymore. I still have a cough, though, darn it.

Got to hang out with my boyfriend during lunch today. We just stayed at our usual place, just sitting there. Funny how just seeing that guy can brighten up my whole day.

Just finished my MUSSTUD report. All I have to worry about is the execution. Sir Jed told us to be brief, but it's kinda hard to discuss Broadway music and composers briefly. Well, for me, that is. I dunno, it's just that there's a lot of information here, and for some reason Sir Jed did say that he expects a lot from my report. Yikes.

I'm working on my MUSSTUD homework right now. Researching on French composers called "Les Six" and a group of Russian composers called The "Russian Five". I'm also supposed to be looking for this group called "The Big Four", but all the clue I have of that is this one composer. Arg.

It's Felie's birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FELIE!!! Miss you, girl!

Since last night, I've been downloading old songs from this old TV show called California Dreams. Anyone remember that? I loved that show. I remember the time when my brother and I bought the cassette soundtrack of its first season. I listened to it over and over again, until my cousin stole it and never returned it (probably because he lost it, as he always does to stuff he borrows). Anyway, I found most of their songs that were never released on CD (because the first soundtrack was the only one released to the public), and downloaded all of them. Heeheehee. I'm listening to them right now. Their songs still have that late-80s to early 90s feel that I enjoy listening to. Nyak, I feel like my old teeny-bopper self again.

And now, back to working on MUSSTUD. Damn, I still can't find enough information on Prokofiev and the rest of that "Big Four".

I'm in CADRAFT class right now. I'm just pretending to listen right now.

I stayed home yesterday because the dressmaker was bringing my gown for a fitting. I liked the dress, from the cut to the flowing skirt. But the dressmaker got the color wrong. I bought a two-sided material, so one side is a darker shade of maroon, while the other is burgundy. We told her to use the maroon side, but she got it all wrong and used the burgundy side. Oh well, I guess I have to make do with that. Hardly anyone knows the difference between burgundy and maroon anyway.

Heheheheh, we did make-up in INTROPD clas earlier. Ems and Miss Cindy made me up as Mrs. Engstrand, this character in our play (Ghosts). I looked so red in normal light. Nyak. Aheheheh, I liked what Miss Cindy did to Krystal. She turned her into a man in a matter of minutes. Cool. And we even had our pictures taken before and after we were made-up. So fun.

I'm out of internet prepaid, and my phone doesn't have credits either. I'm sort of deprived of communication right now. So I'm back here at the computer lab. And this computer that I'm using is so slow, arg.

I was supposed to go to Mike's despedida party last Saturday night, but since my dad was going out and my mom didn't want to be left alone, I didn't bother asking permission. Heck, they wouldn't let me go anyway, even though it might be the last time I'll get to see Mike before he leaves for the US.

Oh well.

My mom and I went shopping last Sunday afternoon for stuff for the wedding. At first, we weren't supposed to go, because my dad had a headache. But he let us go anyway. It took my mom an hour and a half to look for the right pair of shoes to go with her dress (I didn't even bother looking for one; I'll just use the strappy sandals I wore to formal occasions). She also wanted new make-up as well. Heheheheh, I know that my mom will only use that make-up for the wedding, so after Sunday, most of the stuff that we shopped for (from her shoes to make-up) will be all mine.

Man, I can't believe I'll be 21 in less than a week. I don't feel like I'm 21 yet. Yikes.

My boyfriend was home sick yesterday, and good thing Lawyn wanted to meet up with me for lunch, since I don't have anyone to hang out with (why would I want to hang out with the YFC Bitches?). I wanted to get my Rocky Horror Show program from her anyway (I asked her to buy one for me this weekend coz I didn't have enough money with me when I watched the show). We just spent the time talking about Rocky Horror, the upcoming show we're planning with Jamie and Karl and the rest, and how Lawyn was gonna do her Powerpoint presentation for class.

Goody, Ari's feeling better today.

Had a tiff with the units again. Long story. After a nice day, I knew everything had to go downhill eventually.

Let's face it, I can't wait to graduate.

*turns up the volume of the CD player*

Suddenly I'm not in the mood to work on my HISART2 paper anymore. I think I'll just work on it tomorrow. I'll stay in my room for the rest of the night.

I had my MUSSTUD finals this afternoon. I was sort of a wreck. I mean, yeah, I studied, but I fell asleep last night listening to the CDs Allie compiled and burned for us. Arg. So during the test, when we had the listening part of the exam, I could hear a lot of familiar pieces, but I couldn't match the titles and composers to the music. And I had mental block on the musical songs. I knew Sir Jed played songs from Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera, but I almost forgot. I sure hope I covered everything in the essay part.

I sat next to this freaky guy on the bus ride home. He looked normal for most of the ride, but when we reached near my stop, he started asking me questions about me. I tried to piss him off by giving really vague answers, because I hate talking to strangers, especially when they start asking personal stuff. Suddenly he asked for my cell phone number, but fortunately it was time for my to get off the bus.

Freak.

Oh well, even if I did have time to give him my number, I would've given him my boyfriend's phone number, because his phone along with his SIM had been stolen quite some time ago, eheheheheh.

Oh yeah, here's some good news. Tim's back from Italy. He sent a mass text message this morning to everyone he knew. I bet he's up for an MT '99 reunion.

Despite the fact that I don't have class today, I'm in school right now, downloading the CADRAFT notes my teacher emailed us. Since the files were big, I had to download them to my U-drive here in school. Arg, the files took up all the space in my email's inbox that I had to download them right away so I can delete them to free some space.

I just remembered that I have to work on the production book later for INTROPD. We're setting up the exhibit tomorrow, so that means we have to submit everything by then.

I can't wait for final exams to be over. I still haven't started fixing the Christmas gifts for Ari, Rosa and Iam and the rest.

Just finished re-reading Ibsen's Ghosts. I had to check and re-check all the props in the play, and type the plot for the props. I'm also thinking of doing a plot for the sets, but it's not really a plot, 'cause the set doesn't change anyway. Maybe a set list instead?

And Ems was supposed to email me tonight the list of costumes so I can do the costume plot, but I haven't received anything from her yet. Darn it. If I don't get anything when I wake up tomorrow morning, I have to type it while we're setting up the exhibit tomorrow.

Went to Lola Pising's wake this evening. Lola lived in the house next door to ours and we had moved in at almost the same time. It's kinda weird knowing that she's gone. So sad. My mom and I went to the wake tonight along with a couple of other neighbors. To the Rema family, our condolences.

Now on to the lighter side. It was Sir Jeff's wedding yesterday, and Ari and his brothers were invited (Arian was the best man). It was so funny reading about it in Ari's uJournal, especially about the garter relay. He almost had it, and then it went to Didu. Hmmm...now it makes me wonder which one of us will catch the bouquet in Kuya Bobot and Ate Vonic's wedding this Sunday. ^_^

We finally started setting up our INTROPD finals today. Miss Cindy was supposed to check it today, but since Krystal couldn't come to class, she decided to check all the stuff on Monday when we open the exhibit. Man, Zard did an awesome job with the lights in their group's set of Shakespeare's The Tempest. If you look at all the works, their group has the coolest lighting job on their macquette, while ours took the claim on the realistic set design (modest, aren't we? ^_^). All we need now is Krystal's lighting plot and we're all set. We already placed our works on the pedestals on the fourth floor and started working on the exhibit design until our CADRAFT finals.

Darn, I won't be able to see the opening of the exhibit on Monday because of TECTHE2 finals. Oh well.

I've been busy all evening preparing everything we needed to bring for tomorrow's wedding. I can't wait for tomorrow.

Today was Benjamin "Kuya Bobot" Mesia, Jr. and Veronica "Ate Vonic/Veron" Cadlum's wedding. My 'rents and I went to Cavite City early because we planned to get dressed at Kuya Richie's house. But when we got there, we had to pass by Ate Vonic's house. My mom yelled a good morning as we passed by, then waited for a while. Nobody answered, so we started walking again. But Ate Vonic suddenly called us from the upstairs window, telling us that we could get ready at her place, because they hired someone to do hair and make-up for them. So okie, we ended up there instead, while my dad just passed by to say hello to his brother, Tito Ely (the bride's dad), then went ahead to Kuya Richie's house. Good thing we stayed there, because I was wondering how to do my own hair and make-up.

The wedding was at 10, and everyone was hurrying to get to the church at around 9:30. Kuya Bobot's family was already there when we arrived. I've never seen Nina (his youngest sister) look so pretty. She was a bridesmaid, of course.

So when it was already 10 o'clock, they started assembling the entourage. Being the secondary sponsor (candle) with Kuya Richie, we were the first pair to walk down the aisle. Darn, I should've borrowed Dad's lighter. It was such a hassle carrying a box of matches. And one of them went out the moment I left it to light the next one. I had to go back, so Kuya Richie had to wait for me to light it again. It happened again when I lit the tall candle in front during the actual ceremony. I had to take 2 steps up and stand on tiptoes to light it, then when I went back down, it went out. Arg. I had to borrow Kuya Butch's lighter (he was standing in front near us because he was videotaping the whole thing) to re-light it again. Aheheheheh.

I've never seen Ate Vonic so beautiful. Sheila (the cord sponsor) was right that a girl looked the most beautiful on her wedding day. And I've never seen Kuya Bobot look so sweet over a girl. And this is the childish guy who used to live in my house. His childish side was still seen, though. Sometimes he would give this goofy grin, or stick out his tongue, or make a face because he was so tired of keeping his smile for the camera.

We had the reception at the 2nd floor of Cheefoo restaurant. It used to be this really small restaurant, but it's been years since I last went there, and it changed a lot. It was bigger and nicer. Cool. I had to sit with the rest of the secondary sponsors, the maid of honor, and the bridesmaid in front of the presidential table. What I liked about it was that it was sit-down. The rest of the guests had to go through the buffet line. Waheheheheh, once in a while, at the table where Kuya Nonong, Ate Neneng, Kuya Boyet, Ate Cherie, Ate Lanie, and Kuya Buboy sat, they would clink their spoons to their glasses to get the bride and the groom to kiss. Kuya Bobot would sometimes stick out his tongue in a "no" gesture".

The program's emcees were Ate Shang and Kuya Butch. Heheheheh, cool, a brother-sister tandem. They handled everything, even to making Sheila, the one who did the intermission number, really nervous.

Heheheh, my favorite part was the tossing of the bouquet. At first, no one wanted to stand up except for Sheila, so she sat back down. Then Ate Cherie stood up, so eager to catch the bouquet. Then Sheila got me, Nina and Ate Shang to join, so the other girls followed suit. Aheheheheh, then we all ganged up on Ate Cherie. When Ate Vonic tossed the bouquet, we all didn't move, except for one of us, who pushed Ate Che to the front. Ate Che eagerly ran and jumped to catch it, and turned around to find us still standing there. What was even funnier was that the guy who caught the garter put it around Ate Cherie's pants leg instead of under it. Heeheehee..

All in all, it was a fun day. Right now, the newlyweds are on their way to Baguio for their honeymoon.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. AND MRS. BENJAMIN MESIA, JR.!

I just wanted to share this song I'm listening to. Sir Jed mentioned this particular song to us during out last class before our final exams, and along with it, he wrote this on the board:

You are a ghost singing to your loved one.
You are singing about your feelings to your loved one, pouring your heart out.
Your loved one can't hear you.

Anyway, here's the song.

HOW COULD I EVER KNOW

Lily:

How could I know I would have to leave you?
How could I know I would hurt you so?
You were the one I was born to love
Oh, how could I ever know?
How could I ever know?

How can I say to go on without me?
How when I know you still need me so?
How can I say not to dream about me?
How could I ever know?
How could I ever know?

Forgive me
Can you forgive me
And hold me in your heart
And find some new way to love me
Now that we're apart.

How could I know I would never hold you?
Never again in this world
But oh, sure as you breathe
I am there inside you
How could I ever know?
How could I ever know?

Archibald:
How can I hope to go without you?
How can I know where you'd have me go?
How can I bear not to dream about you?
How can I let you go?

Lily:
How could I ever know?

Archibald:
All I need is

Lily:
Is there in the garden

Archibald:
All I would ask is

Lily:
Is care for the child of

Archibald:
Our love

Lily:
Come, go with me
Safe I will keep you

Archibald:
Where you would lead me
There I would

Lily:
There I would, there we would

Lily and Archibald:
There we will go
How, how could I know?
Ever to know you will never leave me
How could we ever know?
How could I ever know?

I celebrated my 21st birthday last Monday, December 16. Man, I can't believe that I'm actually 21. I don't really feel my age.

Speaking of birthdays, it's Rosa's birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROSA!!! Luv yah, best friend!

We also had our INTROPD exhibit opening that day. All the groups had to finish setting up for the ribbon-cutting at 1:30 in the afternoon. Arg, and my TECTHE2 class was at 1:30, but Sir Mike usually arrives an hour before that. We even delayed the ribbon-cutting until 2pm because Miss Bautista still wasn't around (she was the one who cut the ribbon along with our chairperson, Sir Manolet). Eventually, we ended up having the ribbon-cutting at 2:30. We even had to LRC videotape the whole thing for us. Each group was supposed to explain the design concept of their play, and we were the last. By the time the group before us was about to finish, Kat finally called me to say that Sir Mike had already arrived. Nyak, I didn't get to stay for my group.

My brother arrived on the same day as well. Actually, he was supposed to arrive at 10:45 pm on my birthday, but his flight got delayed so he arrived at midnight. Yay, he brought the X-Box/DVD player as a birthday gift for me. Goody.

I got my MUSSTUD course card yesterday afternoon. I was supposed to meet Ari right after I got my course card, but we ended up staying in the classroom way longer than expected because Sir Jed hadn't finished checking our final exams, so we had to check each other's papers, then count final score according to Sir Jed's crazy point system, then we had to wait for him to enter all our grades into the computer, print it out, and then write our final grades on our course cards (I got a 3.5, yay!). I got outta there at around 5:30. Unfortunately, that was the time that Ari had left, so when I went to our meeting place, he was already gone.

So instead of going home right away, I accompanied Me-Anne to Sir Jed (he's her orchestration teacher) because he was looking for her. I had to sit with her on the couch at the SDA office while she had to defend her orchestration or final paper orally because she forgot to bring her papers with her. She sounded pretty unsure of what she was saying, and I was dying to leave so she wouldn't be so embarassed, because Sir Jed was already pressuring her so much. Nyak, I was already thinking about it when Sir Jed threw a certain question to me because Me-Anne couldn't answer it. He just went like, "Si Christine alam yan," ("Christine knows that.") and asked me the question, and I got to answer it correctly, so he directed another question to me. Oops, sorry Me-Anne.

Had HISTORY final exams today. I thought I was gonna be late, because I slept through the alarm clock, damn it. Fortunately I got to the classroom just in time. One final exam to go.

Gotta get my HISART2 course card this afternoon. Gee, I wonder what my grade will be. Miss Dayang said that I was one of the candidates who might get a 4.0, but after that mental block in the final exam, I don't think I'll get it. Darn it. And I was sort-of aiming for the dean's list this term.

My brother and I had a deal. He doesn't have a phone right now (when he dials to check his balance, the voice says that his phone is unregistered) and since he needed to go out tomorrow and meet up with Dad, I have to lend him my own phone for a day, while my dad will have my brother's phone with my mom's SIM. If I lend him my phone tomorrow, he's gonna buy me my new postpaid phone on Saturday. Arg, I'm gonna have to live without a phone for a day. Time to delete some messages.

So I managed to survive the whole day yesterday without my phone. Weird. And now, half of my messages in my inbox are gone because, well, they're from my boyfriend. I also erased his old number as well.

Course card distibution in school today. Since I already got 4 of my course cards these past few days, I only had to claim 3 more today. The moment I got the very last one, I quickly added them up (3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 2.0, 3.0, 3.0) and got the average, and then I realized that I qualified for the dean's list! Dean's list, here I come!

My brother and I were supposed to apply for our new phones today, but when I got home, he went out shopping or something. Darn. Oh well, I guess we can go tomorrow. I wonder how long we have to wait till it gets activated. I wish it will be before Christmas, so I can send out my number along with my Christmas greetings, aheheheheh.

So my brother and I went to get our new postpaid phones yesterday. He specifically wanted an Ericsson T68i so he could bring it with him to the US, and I was hoping he’d get me something other than the free Nokia 3310. Oh well, since the other phones weren’t available, we didn’t get it. He did find the T68i with the color he wanted in another store, though. I can't wait 'til my phone get activated so I can send out my number. As for my old phone, it's with my brother right now, while he's at the office today, because we're waiting for both phones. Heheheheh, too bad my old SIM is out of credits.

Iam called me yesterday evening, asking me if I was available to go out that night, because she and Aris wanted to give Rosa her Christmas/birthday presents. Since we hardly complete our trio every year, I wanted to go with them, so I had to make my mom talk to Iam just to get her to let me. For goodness sakes, I’m 21, damn it! My mom always thinks that I’m still a kid. Pathetic. That’s why I can’t wait to graduate and get out of here, like my brother.

So anyway, my mom let me, so Aris and Iam picked me up at my house, and they gave me my Christmas/birthday presents as well. Then we went to ATC, where Rosa and her two cousins were having dinner at Gerry’s. We were hoping Rosa would buy us dinner, but they had already left Gery’s when we reached them. Oh well. We decided to get Jamaican patties from the Jamaican patty place, and got some Strawberry Frosts from Figaro’s. Heeheehee, Iam and I never say no to free food.

Rosa opened her gifts from me and Aris right there when we were at Figaro’s. Iam didn’t want her to open what she gave, because she insists that Christmas presents be opened on Christmas day, aheheheheh. I sure hope I brought my camera when Rosa opened my present. She wore it right away.

I gotta go. I have a bunch of stuff to do today. And we have a lunch date with my Dad’s cousin Tita Fe, who’s visiting from California.

My new postpaid line for my cell got activated yesterday. I had to send messages out to everyone I knew to update their phone books. I had to do the same as well, asking everyone if so-and-so's number is still the same.

I was still sending out messages today. This time, they were the people who weren't in my SIM card's phone book, and had to add them to my new one as well. To my surprise, Tito Joey called me the moment after I sent my message to his phone! Wow, it was great to hear from him. I hope I get to work with him again.

My family and I went to South Mall this morning so my brother could shop for clothes. I tagged along so I could find some for me as well. My mom came with us because she's good in choosing men's clothes (she's the one who shops for most of my dad's stuff). As for my dad, he came to drive us and to sit somewhere to read his new book. So when we reached South Mall, to my relief, it wasn't too crowded yet, because most of the people come at noon till afternoon. So my bro and my mom went together, I went on my own, and my dad sat somewhere, happy enough with his book.

When we got home, we found my cousin Kuya Kelly there with his wife, Ate Bing, and their two daughters, Kellanie and Lisa Mae. Kellanie is 15 years old while Lisa is 12. Wow, they're almost as tall as I am. Oh yeah, Kellanie is also my goddaughter, probably because I was the one who made up her name back when I was still around 6 years old. I can't believe how much they've grown.

Oh yeah, one thing I forgot to mention was that Karlo dropped by my house the other day to give me my invitation to his wedding. Wow, I can't believe that he and Domini are getting married. It seems so soon. Well, I guess there's something more to it, but oh well, it's their business. I remember talking to Joanne today about their wedding being a reunion of the Funky Bunch track barkada. Yay, I haven't seen a couple of them for over a year now.

Anyway, since it's a formal affair, I figured I'd wear that dress I wore to Kuya Bobot and Ate Vonic's wedding, but then decided against it because I might look too dressy next to Joanne, who's planning to wear something semi-formal instead. So I went to Ate Shang's house this evening to borrow a dress. Heheheheh, Ate Shang is so generous to me with her clothes and lets me borrow anything I need. She's like the sister I never had. When we got to her room, she laid out most of her formal clothes (most of which were black, arg) and let me fit everything. I decided on a black lace slip dress with a light grey lining, so most of the grey showed through the dress. Oooh, pretty. Wish I could keep it. ^_^

Rosa, Iam, Aris and I went out yesterday because Rosa treated us out for lunch as a post-birthday blowout. Aris picked Iam and me up at our houses, then met up with Rosa and May (her cousin) at Don Henrico's at Festival Mall. Wow, when we got to the table, we didn't realize that Rosa ordered a lot. Two different pastas, a pizza, and a basket of onion rings, all in huge servings. Mmmm...

After that, we went to Rosa's house for a while because she forgot to bring her Christmas presents for the 3 of us, so we all went with her to get it. Heheheheh, of course, we got ourselves re-acquainted with her dog, Snowie, that cute little thing.

Then we went back to Festival, wanting to play billiards. Now, Iam and I aren't really good at billiards, but Rosa was pretty good at calculating where the balls move, so she helped us on where we should shoot and how. It was so funny, because it was Rosa, Iam, May and me against Aris. We all ganged up on the only guy, waheheheheheh.

After 2 hours of playing, we got a text message from Seph, telling us to meet up with him at the food court in ATC. Oooh. Another birthday blowout? (Seph celebrated his 21st birthday the other day.) So Iam and I went with Aris to ATC, while Rosa took May home first.

It was me, Iam, Rosa, Aris, Seph, PJ, Ramon, and Josh at Pizza Hut for dinner. Oh no, more pizza and bottomless iced tea for the four of us! But it was such a blast. Most of us from the barkada hardly get together, and it's hard to coordinate gimmicks. It was great to see a bunch of us get together before the year ends.

Oh yeah, while we were making too much noise at Pizza Hut, was also there. Miss you, Kince! If I didn't know better, I would've thought you were dating that girl. ^_^
