"Artstruck"
Went to the Artstruck talent contest that Oliver invited me to, which was sponsored by Playshop for CLA Day. I stopped by the Playshop booth by the old chess plaza in DLSU first, where I found Oliver and two other girls taking the booth down so they can move it to the lobby of William Shaw Theater. I helped them by taking down the posters. By the time we had taken down the banner, Kat had arrived, then Oliver showed us where he had put the Playshop posters in Miguel building. After that, off we went to the theater. Got to ask Kat about being an admin assistant, and she told me that I had to contact the PD of Playshop ATC, which happened to be Chevy's mom. Oh well.
Found friend and fellow Playshopper Alex in the lobby. As it turned out, she had coached 7 out of the 8 contestants. Naks. Then that's when Oliver also told us that Tito Audie was gonna be one of the judges, along with another teacher, and the dean of the college. Thesismate Rain arrived by then, so we decided to get some seats inside the theater. Oliver said to get seats in front, but when we got to the front, the people in charge told us that the first 3 rows were reserved. Oh well, we moved to the fifth row instead.
Nyak, as it turned out, the models in the fashion show part still needed to rehearse, and they were rehearsing right there and then in front of the audience.
I find it very weird to be just sitting in the audience, not doing anything but wait for the show to start. I hate that helpless feeling. I wanted to stand up, walk around and ask the organizers if they need any help with anything. I just don't like sitting around waiting.
The show started with the emcees, Franco (hahahaha, naks, they got him to host) and Steph, introducing a short set from Enzo and JayR's band, Severo. But since I couldn't take the acoustics of the theater (which was really bad) and the sound of hard rock, I left Rain to guard our seats so I can stay in the lobby for a while to mingle with Alex. Even though she kept going off somewhere for a few moments, we got to chat a little in between. I also got to watch the video Playshop used to advertise. Then I went back inside when Severo was done playing.
Noonienoo, another band played after Severo, but this group was mellower. Rain had to leave in the middle of the group's set, so I was left all by my lonesome when the Artstruck contestants were introduced. To my surprise, high school friend Kince was one of the contestants, coolness!
I endured the first half of the contest sitting alone in my seat, then I moved to the 2nd row behind Oliver. Ahahaha, when I was told by one of the organizers if I was a sponsor, I told them I was with the Playshop people (who were sitting in front and beside me), so she left me alone.
Finally, after waiting for the intermission, Franco introduced the first guest... Christian Bautista. Hahaha, man, this guy's got so much appeal to the crowd. I mean, from the moment he stepped onstage, everyone was screaming. He sang a couple of songs from his upcoming album, and when he decided to go downstage and very close to the audience, the girls sitting on the floor in front of the stage were holding out cameras to take pictures of him. As usual, he worked his charms with the audience, picking out a couple of girls from the crowd to stand beside him as he sang. Ahehehehe, makes me regret that I didn't sit in the front row with Oliver sooner, hahahaha!
Funny moments during Ian's songs still make me laugh even until now. First was when Steph came out to dab his forehead with a a handkerchief. Then Franco came out as well, took the hanky, and tried to do the same, going after Ian while he was still singing. Hahahaha, I took a pic of this one, but I was laughing so hard that the pic came out blurry. (I'll upload the pics later, coz I couldn't find the cable.) Then there was this part when Franco tried to auction off Ian's number. This one girl took it semi-seriously and went to the stage with some old bills, wahahahaha! When she got off the stage after getting a kiss on the cheek from Ian, she fell off the apron! My golly, thank goodness she was OK.
Endured another singing group for intermission, then it was back to the contest for the other four contestants. My goodness, I swear, the contestants were like last night's episode of American Idol. Flats and sharps everywhere. How could Tito Audie manage to sit through all that? And the only person good enough was the last one, this guy who sang Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing".
After the contestants came the fashion show that was rehearsed earlier. Ooooh, I liked the last model's clothes. Classic black and white top with a twist. I wonder if I could just make one of those instead of buying it somewhere.
Then Franco introduced Myke first. Hahaha, he did a few solos, with that "I Wanna Know" with the beatboxing. In the middle of his spiel, I managed to switch to the front row beside Oliver, yay. Then when the other guys came up onstage, they began looking for mics. That's when I noticed that there were only 6 of them. Ikey and Karl were missing. Nyak, when they finally got their mics and faced the audience, Robi noticed me sitting in front and said "Hi Hogi!" into his mic. Hahaha, that's when I sank back into my seat.
Ehehehe, Oliver whispered to me that it was the first time he got to see Ian and the Akafellas perform. Shame on you, Oliver, hahaha. Talents grown from Trumpets Playshop pa naman sila.
I decided to leave the theater the same time the fellas did, and as I was walking towards the doors, I noticed that more than half the theater was already emtpy. Well, I guess the whole thing went really late.
One short set, including that spiel with the car and the crash and the "panaginip lang pala, kaya tumayo na kayo" stuff. Then after that, they did one last song before bidding goodbye.
Mingled at the lobby with Oliver, Kiwi and some others as they passed out Playshop posters. Hahaha, I caught more glimpses of the Playshop video then. After that, I decided to go backstage to say hi to the guys. When I found Paulo and Robi, Pau asked if I was going home, so he offered I hitch with either one of them. Hahaha, Robi started teasing me again about all the wrong pronunciations people do with my name. "Heya, Hog! (yes, he pronounced it like that pig animal) Where's Pig?" Hahaha, ayan, Paulo then pointed to him, "Diba that's you?" then pointed to his flab. Wahahahaha! So Robi said, "Sige, from now on, you're Hog and I'm Pig." Nyak...
Ended up riding with Paulo. Nyak, had to endure all his kakulitan, from saying everything and ending his words with "ssst" to copying my Valley girl accent when I was doing this spiel. Then when he bought something at McDo's drive through...
Paulo: Pwedeng i-Big Time?
Girl: Go Large po...
Hahaha, I bet the girl gets that every time.
Anyway, I'm running out of things to say. I'm getting sleepy, so it's beddy-bye time, because I have to endure Module 2 of community service orientation in school tomorrow morning.
I'll upload the pics tomorrow, promise.
