Entries for May, 2004

So yesterday was the last show of Singphony.

Went to ATC because I was going to be picked up by our fearless director at McDo. I went there a little early so I could look around. When I arrived, the first familiar face I saw was Kris along with her sister, my former Playshop student, Nikki. Man, I haven’t seen those girls in such a long time. Still the perky duo, though.

Jun and Ecel were almost an hour late, per usual, but hey, I’m not complaining, because he’s the choirmaster anyway. When we arrived at the Herrera Hall, some of the girls were already having their makeup done. I sat around in the audience area with the rest of the people.

When almost everyone was done (except for the guys, though Chayay volunteered to do the guys’ makeup), we all sat around the audience area while Jun sat at the edge of the stage to give the choir their notes, including the ones I gave him. Most important note was the energy, of course. Plus some of their smiles were fading halfway through songs. Sheena and I was already getting them to loosen up during the last couple of songs the night before while we were in the tech booth. So Jun said, “Tumingin lang kayo sa tech booth. Pag nakita nyo nang nagwawala sila Hogi and Sheena, ibig sabihin kulang pa energy nyo.” Hahaha. Nyak, and when someone complained about the cellphones ringing and beeping all over the place the night before, I was told to do an announcement about it before the national anthem. Oh well.

There was less work done yesterday before the show because we had already set up everything the night before for the first show. Spent most of my time hanging out by the dressing rooms while they were all having photo-ops. Hahaha, I kept avoiding the camera, but when Otap insisted that the production crew must have a picture together, that’s when I agreed.

Sheena and the kids’ choir arrived a little later, because they heard Mass first. Man, those kids are pretty hard to control backstage. It was tempting to look for the leftover nylon strings and tie them up, hahaha. But Jun joked that we could fit them all in the huge “toy box” set piece to shut them up, wehehehehe.

Before the prayer, I got a text from Ate Tere. She was asking if I was in Bene that time, so I said yes. As it turned out, she happened to be the godsister of Happy, and she was there to watch the show! She called me up while I was amidst the flurry backstage to tell me. Woohoo! A familiar face in the audience! Yay!

At five minutes before show time, I wished the choir good luck, checked my walkie-talkie, and went to the tech booth. Hahaha, Ate Tere just had to turn around to look, and I was waving back crazily behind the glass window. I must’ve looked like a psychotic, hehehe.

When Sheena gave me the cue for the cellphone announcement, I rang my phone into the mic and spoke. Nyak, immediately after that, I get a text from Ate Tere: “Ang liit ng voice mo!” Hahaha! Sorry po, I’m not used to doing voice overs. So there, I was laughing at the text message that I got bulol when I announced the national anthem. Igh.

Showtime! It was noticeable for me that the choir was more crowded last night, because Mari and Denise have joined in. I had to ask Sheena to open the curtains more, but I doubt it helped that much, because some of the people on extreme right and left were still masked in the U-formation. Oh well.

Had a bit more simple goofs during the show that night, such as forgetting to dim the lights so the follow-spot can focus on one solo, and not turning the master switch on after intermission, so the lights suddenly snapped on for “Seasons of Love”.

Energy-wise, the choir was better than the first time, but it wasn’t 100%. Hahaha, Sheena and Jun had to radio me just to ask about it when they exited. During the 3rd part of the show, Sheena and I had to draw a huge smiley face on a piece of paper to get them to smile then we flashed it a lot. “Joyful Joyful” was a big improvement. Most of them loosened up, but not all. It actually feels contagious, because when I looked at someone who’s really dancing, my hands danced all over the lights. But when I look at someone who has less energy, my hands get lazy. Oh well.

On the whole, it was pretty much a good show. A lot more people came compared to the first one. Yas, Ecel’s best friend was there, but I didn’t get to see her because of the huge crowd in the lobby, darn.

And huwaw, when I looked outside, no wonder it was crowded. It was raining! Thank you, Lord! Man, it hasn’t rained in the area all summer, so it felt great. But when we were fixing everything up backstage, suddenly there was a power failure! Nyak. But at least the timing was good. Imagine how crazy I’d go if it had happened during the show. I forgot to bring my flashlight, so we all had to rely on our phones’ backlights. Thank goodness for my “flashlight phone”, hahaha, because it was super bright.

The choir had plans of going out to San Mig after the show, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to. I rode with Jun back to their house so he could switch cars to give me time to decide, and by the time we got inside, I finally decided to just go home and rest. So he drove me home. Hahaha, of course, he still wanted to collect the dues that I owe him, and because I was ever so hesitant, we did the usual drive around the block. Several times, hahaha. Fine, so I had to give him my dues. I already got my check anyway, hehehe.

"Okie, so next time ulit?"
"Yeah...wait, next racket."
"Yeah nga!"

That was the last exchange Jun and I had after Singphony, when he took me home.

And then I got a text message from him late yesterday morning, asking if I was doing anything in the afternoon, because he was going to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center to measure the upper ground floor for an event this coming June.

I never expected another racket with him this soon, hahaha. But it was cool. Anyway, what he was supposed to do is dress up part of that area for an exhibit they're holding for the entire month of June. I'm gonna help out a bit because Jun doesn't know how to keep things organized. Man, when that guy finally establishes his own events company, he's gonna need someone to be his "line producer" to organize his life. If I hadn't brought a pen and paper yesterday, I wouldn't know how he would've remembered the dimensions of the venue.

Nyak, now that I secured another racket, I get a call from Myron last night concerning his drag racing event. But since I'm sort of working with Jun already, I told him that I can help him out in his next event in October, which is a paintball tournament. Coolness.

Found Kathy online the other night, looking for a manager. She asked me if I knew anyone, so I decided to ask Jill and Tita Sherbet, who were online as well.

Me: wait, question, remember kathy dizon from SIAM?
Jill: yappy whyst?
Me: she's looking for a manager kasi.. know anyone?
Jill: mom / dad?
Jill: safe answer.
Jill: HAHAHA
Me: hahahaha
Me: they have to listen to her first
Jill: mom's online! she can help you with that

Me: tita?
Tita Sherbet: hi
Me: tita, question...
Me: have you seen kathy dizon from the april batch of star in a million?
Tita Sherbet: di mashado register
Tita Sherbet: i saw only da first n last ones
Me: ah...
Tita Sherbet: y?
Me: she's my friend kasi and she's looking for a manager.. do you know anyone?
Tita Sherbet: meeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Tita Sherbet: hahaha
Me: hahaha, yan din sabi ni jill just a few minutes ago

Got Kathy and Tita into a conference, and agreed to meet at the studio today so she and Tito Sunny can listen to her. Also told her to prepare one fast and one slow song to sing.

So Kathy and I went to Greenhill Sound today. Only Tito Sunny was there, because Tita and Jill were still asleep when he left the house. Kathy had brought a minus one of her songs, which were "Waiting For Tonight" and "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw". Popped the minus ones in and had Kathy sing. Then the songs with her voice was recorded for her and then we talked a bit with Tito Sunny. The next step was for Kathy to sing an original song with her own style, so they agreed to meet to pick up the song to study on Saturday at Dish. Hehehe, another excuse for me to go out, plus I get to watch the Akafellas and South Border.

We bid Tito Sunny goodbye and then we decided to go to ATC and hang out. Kathy decided to invite Lawyn, Mae and Jun as well, so she tried to call them. Lawyn agreed, and got Mae to tag along. As for Jun, he wasn't answering his phone. But when we got to ATC, we get the same text message from him that he was in a lunch meeting earlier, and will be joining us after finishing a few errands.

When Lawyn and Mae arrived, we hung out at Powerbooks, and I had to endure almost half an hour of them, because they were half-teasing that Jun and I were a couple, probably because we've been spending so much time together. Uhm, hello? Rackets? That's why we're always together? So of course, when Jun arrived, more teasing galore. But he only had to stay for a while because he had stuff to do at Bene, but promised to return.

Hung around at Food Choices then, just talking, bonding, including commercial breaks of teasing me. Arg... Anyway, we then decided to go to Lawyn's house and watch last year's Bye Bye Birdie showcase, so Lawyn got Tootsie, her grandfather, to pick us up.

Holed up in Lawyn's room and laughed as we watched ourselves on TV. Man, I swear, I looked so funny, and I swear I sounded flat when I sang. And that was when my mic didn't konk out. Plus the set was totally bare, so our colorful costumes saved the show.

Funny parts:
  • Mae's onstage costume change, where her bra was yanked down because her blouse was caught in it.
  • Chevy looked like Charlie Chaplin during his first cameo appearance.
  • I was super bouncy (naks, project talaga, hahahaha!) during "Telephone Hour" and "A Lot of Livin'".
  • Kathy looked like a maid when she was dressed as a parent.
  • Ninoy looked like a statue when he posed as Conrad Birdie on top of the platform.
  • Lawyn's faint was so hilarious during "You Gotta Be Sincere".
  • The cut of Jun's pants was tapered, not straight cut, so he looked even more like a penguin in "Put On A Happy Face".

I realized that the whole show really was too long, no wonder the audience got impatient. It was dragging. Hey, don't blame us, Tita Menchu chose the musical.

After watching, it was almost time for Kathy and I to leave, but when we got downstairs, I get a text from Jun, asking until what time we will be staying at Lawyn's house. I told him that we were about to leave, but we could stay for a few more minutes if he wanted to catch up. But then he decided not to go anymore. Nyak. We four girls ended up talking about him and other stuff for another hour outside the house, and bonding galore, just because of that. Then Kathy invited Lawyn and Mae to go to Dish with us on Saturday so we can finally have a real girls' night out. Can't wait for that.

PJ's birthday (May 7) is always an opportunity for a Hogi Hall reunion. That's what happened tonight.

Too lazy to update, so here are some pics for now...

My two best friends, Iam and Rosa.

    Raffy and me.
Raffy, by the way, just went to PJ's place to greet the birthday boy and left right away. But hey, at least he made an appearance.

Me, Iam and Rosa holding up the shirt we got PJ for a birthday gift.

PJ (left), and our table, as we start round one of the food, hehehe.

    Jackie, Joy, Liv and Seph.
Don't you notice how people lean their heads in the picture instead of moving closer when they think they don't fit in the frame?

The candle within the candle. This centerpiece amused Iam and me too much.

    The Hogi Hall.
    Looks like a class pic.
L-R: Iam, me Joy, Yelle, Liv, Jackie, Rosa, Aris, PJ, Gonx, Mon, Josh, Seph, Hofi (from the track team), Paco, Jules (Paco's girlfriend)

    The Hogi Hall guys.

    The Hogi Hall girls.

I can't believe I actually let Iam take a pic of this, hahaha.

Our trio just loves the camera.

So time to post about yesterday.

Met up with Rosa and Aris at ATC, then we hung around the food court so Aris can grab a bit to eat, plus so Rosa and I can get some halo-halo, hehehe. Pigged out on chicken skin as well because of Rosa's crazy cravings. After that, we decided to shoot some pool while waiting for Iam and Raffy to arrive from Makati.

Rosa kept joking at how much my hair could be a hindrance while playing pool.

Rosa: Hogz, yung hair mo nakakalat na sa table.
Me: (while leaning over the pool table) Wala yan sa haba ng buhok!
*shoots the ball into a side pocket*
    Ehehehehehe...

Wahahaha, when Iam sent me a text message telling me that they had already arrived in ATC, she followed it up with a phone call, saying the funniest phrase I heard all day. "Punta kami dyan o puntahan namin kayo?" Hahahaha! So we asked them to join us in our last game, then we paid and hung around the food court again to wait for Josh so we could all go to PJ's house together.

When Josh arrived, man, we were so surprised at how thin he got these past few months. Huwaw. Anyway, we all set off for PJ's house, and we happened to be the first ones there. Raffy just greeted Peej a happy birthday then had to leave right away. Aw...

It was so great to see some of the people I haven't seen in a long time. I haven't seen Yelle, Jackie and even Joy in at least a year. Even some people from the track and field team came, like Mela, Aggie, Dan, Hofi and Bins.

It's been quite a while since we all last saw each other so everyone had their share of stories, what's been going on, who's dating who, what line of work everyone's in, or even if they've already graduated. Man, when everyone starts asking about work, that's when you start feeling old.

Of course, there's even talk about that darn bet the guys made in high school. I mean who would want to win that bet anymore? Hahaha, Rosa even proposed a new bet because we were talking about who already has a family in the batch, but the guys vetoed that one real quick.

All in all, I had a blast because I saw my barkada again. I always feel as if hardly get to see them anymore.

Went to Dish last night with Kathy. We met up outside her village and then we dropped by New Life to say hi to Chevy, Eric and Mikki. We were supposed to visit Tito Eddie (Chevy’s dad) at Asian Hospital, but Chev told Kathy to pass by New Life instead, where there was a church service for his dad. We only had a few moments there, then we had to leave for QC.

Wahahaha, Kathy, I tell you this. No effort at all. You’re not doing anything wrong.

Anyway, when we arrived at ABS-CBN, we went straight to Dish. We got our own table instead of sitting at the one Tita Sherbet reserved because Kathy invited fellow Star In A Million contestant Jeff, along with some of his guy friends. We were already hungry by the time we got there, so we ordered food right away, while waiting for the Ilacads. I was about to attack the 2nd half of my spatzle when I heard someone giggling behind me. Wahahaha, I knew it was Lexi even before she tried to cover my eyes. And there they were. Jill, Diane and Teena were sitting at a table near ours. I introduced Kathy to them before we went back to our pasta (which tasted so much like plain old macaroni and cheese, by the way). They switched to the table next to us after a few minutes.

Finally, Tito Sunny and Tita Sherbet arrived. I finally introduced Kathy to Tita, and she joined us at our table. Tita was talking to us about her last encounter with Franco when, speaking of the devil, he appears at the entrance. Wahahaha, when he came over to our tables to say hi, we all leaned over at the other table to look at Teena’s expression. Heeheehee. Some of the fellas arrived late, and the funniest greeting I got was from Reuben. When I came over to say hi, he said, “Hogi! …Can I leave this with you?” Then he handed his bag to me as Franco herded him, Karl and Robi away.

Of course, as usual, I couldn’t help but acknowledge my presence when the guys were already onstage even with the lights still off. Goes to show it’s been quite a while since I last went out, hahaha. Holy kamote, what’s with Paulo’s hair? Because it was super straight last night, he looked so much like Mark Bautista.

Jeff and his friends arrived when the fellas were well into their set, but because there was a lot of them, some of the guys had to wait for a table. Jeff joined Kathy and me at our table, and invited his other friend Eugene to sit with us. Nyak, kulit ni Kathy. The whole night, even before we left, she kept reintroducing us, “Hogi, Eugene. Eugene, Hogi.” Huwatsdaaat. Anyway, when the table next to the Ilacads were vacated, they switched there, and we put the two tables together. Brent, this other guy from SIAM, came along as well and joined us. Hahaha, hirit ni Tita: “Star In A Million ka na rin, Hogi?”

Hehehehe, after one of the guys’ last songs, I did my infamous “HUWAW!” before the rest of the crowd had a chance to applaud. Nyak, Robi just had to acknowledge me. Is there time to crawl under the table? Hahahaha!

When the guys were done with their set, Jill, Lexi, Diane, Teena and I went over to where the fellas were. Kathy was already content sitting with Jeff and Brent, but she told me to say hi to Karl for her. Nyahaha, so I brought Karl over to her instead.

Me: Man, I missed you guys! Sayang talaga I didn’t get to go to Teena house for that EB.
    Reubs: Yeah, where were you?
Me: Racket. I was working at a choir concert kasi that night as technical director.
Reubs: Talaga? Wala eh, in demand na kasi si Hogi. Pa-concert concert na lang. Akafellas, Nyoy…
    (Nyak, in demand? Don’t I wish…)

Me: It was PJ’s birthday yesterday.
Paulo: Yeah, I know. I wasn’t invited naman eh.
    (Doi.)

    Franco: I texted Nyoy yesterday.
Me: Yeah? And what does it have to do with me?
Franco: Wala lang, I just texted him, and then I suddenly remembered you.
    (*bonk*)

Weeheehee, after the fellas set, it was time for South Border! Hehehe, I was texting Adjeng half the time I was watching, telling her how cute Duncan is up close. “To me, it was beyond the looks and the voice…” Yihee, is someone missing her ex? My question was answered by another text: “Is he flirting with anyone ba?” Hahaha, so I just said, “I can’t tell; there are too many girls up front.” Hehehe, I switched to the seat next to Lexi while the band was playing so I can get a better view.

When I looked back at the other table, I saw Allotte somewhere near the tech booth, so I went over to say hi. I got her to join Kathy and Jeff at their table because she didn’t have anywhere else to sit. Man, I missed that girl.

I actually got to meet Duncan at last! Yay! Hahaha, ang babaw ko talaga. As it turned out, Jeff’s friend is a friend of Duncan’s as well, so Kathy asked her to introduce us. Damn, I had what I call a “Peachy moment”. I was busy looking at him that I didn’t have time to take my camera out so we can have a picture together. Darn. Hehehe.

Kathy and I hung around with Jeff and his friends for a while longer after Tita Sherbet, Tito Sunny, Jill, Lexi, and Teena left (Diane had left sometime after South Border began their set). Then we had to leave. The whole ride back home, we listened to the tracks in the CD Tito Sunny gave Kathy to study. Nyak, LSS. I joked that I might be able to sing the 3rd track as well because we played it more than the 7th track, hehehe.

It’s Sunday, May 09, 2004. HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY!!!

I was looking for my Maid In Manhattan DVD earlier among my brother's messy pile of DVDs and VCDs when I saw these 2 CDs, just marked "Disc 1" and "Disc 2" in Tinay's familiar handwriting.

It was the video from Playshop 2002.

Man, I remember that year, when I first got a job as Myles' assistant teacher. I was supposed to be Ria's assistant for her class, but when I got to talk to Tita Luna, she told me I was to be under Myles instead, for the basic musical theater class. And to keep me in shape, I enrolled in the more advanced class under Tito Audie.

The class I taught did selected scenes from Godspell. I looked up my entry from back on this day that year, and we were doing casting auditions then. I was so darn proud of how we finally got Nicole to sing, though it was all thanks to Rony for shutting her up, though, hahaha. Then I realized that one of my other students who thinks she's in the A-crowd was becoming such a bitch-in-the-making. It really disappoints me when there are kids like that who enroll in the classes just because their parents want them out of the way, or just to keep them occupied in the summer. Sophie was making no effort at all during the entire duration of Playshop.

As for our own class, Tito Audie initially proposed we do something like "The 12 Dancing Princesses". But even though our class was really huge, we didn't have much guys in it. So we ended up doing a musical revue called You've Got a Friend. It's composed of scenes about friendship, ranging from kids just playing around, teenagers giddy over boys, guys making bets over a girl, best friends making up and prepping each other up for a wedding, and of course, in true Trumpets tradition, the friendship with God. Some of us were grouped together and wrote our own scripts, while the rest were given scenes made by Tito Audie and Tita Luna to work with. I got grouped with Kathy, Lawyn, Moira and Leah, and we did this "Pre-Prom Night" vignette. We had a blast and a barrel of laughs writing the entire scene while sitting on the floor with Tita Luna. But then when I realized that our scene comes right after the "Pick-Up" scene that Jamie made with Karl, Doods, Jun and Dari, I knew that we can't top the laughs that other scene made. But hey, we pulled it off great, even though we had to sing a pop song ("Points of View").

    I miss that year.
Different lines of different songs from that show is playing in my head right now. "Self-Portrait", "Clouds", "Alone in the Universe", "Telephone Hour" (which led to the full-scale production of last year's Bye Bye Birdie, "Unexpected Song", "Come In From The Rain", "Old Friend", and "Side by Side".

Maybe I'll watch the video later, plus the videos I made during our rehearsals. I can't seem to count how many times I enjoyed listening to "Clouds" or how many times I rolled on the floor laughing at "Pick-Up".

Last week, before Kathy and I met up to go to Dish, she was watching Star In A Million to check out the new batch of contestants for this month. Hahaha, to quote, "Pampagulo lang sila." Well, because I didn't get to watch it last week, I decided to check it out this evening. Plus I heard that there was this girl named Laarni among the contestants. I know one girl whose name is Laarni, and hey, it's not that common a name.

My brother also told me that his friend from school and work, Francis, is also a contestant this month. I heard that he was in the DLSU chorale, so I got even more curious.

Sure enough, the Laarni on SIAM was the same girl I knew from last year's Dreamgirls. Still had that cute-looking face, but vocally, there wasn't much improvement. I remembered her as the cast member I hear most complaints about. She was my age, and she was the 2nd youngest member in the cast. She always wore these really short shorts, cutoff shirts, and Birkenstocks to rehearsals. People were always picking on her whenever she's not around. Yeah, Laarni's nice and all, but there was never a day where she annoyed the cast and crew with her space-case moments. Ahahaha, one thing the whole cast and crew will never forgive her for was the time she tried singing the high part of Bituin's dramatic solo while she was backstage. Everyone heard her, and tried shutting her up. My goodness, easy lang, girl.

Aw, seeing Laarni on TV made me miss the Dreamgirls crowd all over again.

Anyway, in tonight's SIAM episide, both Laarni and Francis got booted out. But Sandy from After Eve is still in! Hahaha, it's so funny, when the camera focused on the audience, it mostly showed After Eve (Allotte, Nica, and Elea), but mostly on Allotte. Maybe because she was a former contestant.

Speaking of SIAM, psst, Jillie, who had a fantastic night last night?

I was so bored today that I decided to finally watch that video of You've Got A Friend. Igh, I looked so... ew... I don't know how to describe it. I looked funny. And my character in our "Pre-Prom Night" vignette annoyed me. I sounded so squeaky. *shudder* It kinda made my performance in Bye Bye Birdie look so much better.

I'm getting hungry... But Mom and Kuya are still chatting with Kuya's girlfriend outside. Hehehe, maybe I'll grab a few bites from the food that Ate Maui brought.

Found this in my friend's blog, right after she texted me about someone I knew. She told me to check her blog, so I did.

    wev: he's hot, right?
me: what? (did he just say that?!)
wev: i mean he plays hot? galing?
me: uh... yeah. he's good. i guess.

rumor has it this hot guy isn't too happy in his current band. wev might pirate the guy to play for loquy. i don't like him, but he'll definitely add a great sound to the group. kashmir would sound much better with him there, as would the jeff buckley and dave matthews covers. hmm... interesting.

    HOT GUY?? HOT GUY?!?!? ROTFLMAO...

My take on it? Let's just hope he'll turn out better if he does get into Loquy.

Went to Makati today. Jill, Peachy and I were supposed to watch Troy, but Jillie couldn't make it. While I was still aboard the bus, I heard the conductor saying that we can't pass through Ayala because it was closed off, so I got off near RCBC and walked all the way to Greenbelt.

While I was walking through Greenbelt 3, my dad spotted me while I passed by the restaurant (I forgot which one) he and Kuya were having lunch at. Dad insisted I go with them for a while, but then I couldn't get away to meet Peachy in Glorietta after 10 minutes. Grrr.. When the rain died down, I managed to let them let me go.

Peach and I then took a cab to Pasong Tamo Extension to visit Meynard and Jeremy's class. It was raining buckets by the time we got there, so we ran for cover as soon as I opened the cab door. We retreated to the bathroom together to freshen up, and I just had to laugh at the sight of Peachy putting her head under the hand dryer to dry her hair. WAHAHAHAHA! I can't resist but take a picture of her while she was there with her camera.

We killed time in Starbucks first before we went up to their rehearsal space with some of Peachy's friends. Said hi to Meynard and Jeremy (and Rich was there too! She was the first person who rushed to me, aw...) and hung around for a while, then we went back down to Starbucks. Spent quite a while there, just talking. Then we went back up and decided to ask if we could get a backstage job at their show. Hahahaha, we were kinda shy to go back in at first, but when we saw the door open, we stepped inside and sat next to Jeremy, asking if he needed help with anything. He said that we could work backstage, yay.

Since Meynard took the boys in the class to the rehearsal hall, we walked over there so we can ask him the same thing. Spent a while standing outside the hall until he left the room, and then asked him then. Meynard said that if we do work backstage, we won't be able to watch the show, so he said we could work as ushers instead. Yay, not only do we get to get to work, we also get to watch the show for free! Thankies, Meynard! You're the best, big guy!

Peachy and I then went back to Glorietta to shop. We ran into my friend Marex, who I met in last year's Playshop class. Man, I missed him. Anyway, we went to Subway to satiate an entire day's craving, hahaha. Then we went around some more til we got to Tower Records and Powerbooks, where she bought this stationery set called "Hello Princess" (or something like that). Haha, Peach looked like a kid with a new toy after she purchased the box.

Anyway, gotta go for now. Big bro's wrenching me off the laptop.

Hahaha, out of sheer boredom the other night, I took a picture of myself in front of the mirror.

Huwaw, I never realized how long my hair has grown. In case you're wondering why it looks wavy, it's because my hair was in braids the whole day. My hair can never get any wavier than that no matter what I do. It's always uber straight.

Hahaha, and I can't believe I actually posted a pic of my messy room for everyone to see. But I'm so darn proud of that blue and gold styro carving of that Easter Island head in the background.

And yes, that's my bed on the floor. I don't have a normal bed because I got used to the sofa bed I bought with my very first paycheck. Teeheehee.

Hehehehe, I was supposed to post about this last night, but I had second thoughts. But here we go.

I discovered something that was a rip-off of something my friends came up with. Hahaha, and I mean total rip-off, man. It actually amused me.

Like I said before, "role models", hehehehe. True, it's flattering, like Jill said. But it's so hilarious to find out that there are people out there ripping off other people's creative juices.

I remember Sir Mike's stories of Singapore asking Filipinos to go there and teach creativity, as if it can be taught. Nyak.
Even here, you still can't teach it.

    To quote Jill, "Originality rocks!"

My brother asked me last week if I can babysit Koji, Ate Maui's guinea pig, while their family goes out of town. Of course, having seen the adorable rodent in pictures, I willingly agreed.

Koji arrived today while I was out meeting with my thesis mates. I got a text message from Kuya, saying, "I put the rodent in your room." Ahahahaha... Okie...

So when I arrived at home, there it was in its cage, along with a note from Ate Maui's younger sister..
Please please take care of my baby guinea pig. Keep her away from ants and cats. Thank you! Koji cries when she's hungry or wants to play.

    Hehehe, I found it sweet.

I'm gonna let her out of her cage later so we can play.

Check it out. Meet Koji the guinea pig!

Trying to bite the nose off my bear, Flappy.

    Attacking the stalk of kangkong.

    Wachoo lookin' at?

The funny part of it all is my mom. She usually hates it when we even want to ask her about keeping pets in the house. But the entire family fell in love with the rodent. Last night, while I took Koji out of her cage so she can play around in my room (pouncing on my area rug at a couple of small stuffed bears), Mom hinted that she wants to have a guinea pig too, a pure white one. Ahahaha...

I found a text message in my phone the other night from Jun, and I only replied during the wee hours of the morning. I got his reply again yesterday morning, telling me that he has a new project in mind and was asking for my help. I found him online (like me, also in invisible mode) and he told me a bit more about the project, which was a CD and songbook of church songs that he wants to sell.

And what does this have to do with me? He needed a production manager. Gak, what the heck do I know about being a production manager?

    Me: so..
    Me: songbook and cd?
    Jun: yup!
    Me: interesting..
Me: so what can i do to help?
Jun: need a production staff... that's pretty much you!
Me: hahaha, one person prod staff
Me: so what do i do?
Jun: actually i need logistic details on producing and selling music. all the info you can get...
    Me: producing and selling details..
Jun: don't know lang kasi the business side of producing and selling... creatively, wala nang problema... have 80% of the songs done na
Me: so producing and selling lang talaga
    Jun: yup...
    Jun: thanks PRODUCTION MANAGER!
    Me: hala...

Plus we also talked about making another event, like this party he wants to do. I guess it's because he missed doing that whole Funk Not Dead thing at Culture club before. Anyway, we decided to meet yesterday, because I know it's gonna be uber-hard to fit another meeting in his busy schedule. We were supposed to meet after lunch, and then he moved it to later in the afternoon, so I went to ATC, where we were supposed to meet.

Holy kamote, while I was browsing in Powerbooks, I ran into Rina, whom I haven't seen in at least 2 years. She's finally back after staying in Japan for a year, and wow, she looks so, so different now. But she's still the same old Rina I knew back in high school.

Evening came, and still no sign of Jun. Man, he said he was finishing up something, and where the heck was he? Arg... I decided to pre-occupy myself with window-shopping, and then checked out that acoustic night thing being set-up. I never knew that it was going to be an annual thing after last year when Nyoy and Paolo Santos came to ATC. Man, till when will this acoustic thing last? Ahahaha, as if I wasn't a fan of the music before.

Hahaha, when I found Mikki (with friend Christian) Powerbooks, he asked me if I was gonna drop by Playshop. I had this huge question mark on my face, because I forgot that it was a Friday! HAHAHAHA! I lost track of what day it is! He then asked what I was doing there, and I told him I was waiting for a friend. If I tell him I was meeting Jun, I'd know for a fact that he'd tell Lawyn and Mae and everyone else back in Playshop that he saw me and I was waiting for Jun. And of course, knowing Law and Mae, they'd think of something again. Hay nako.

When I was about to leave to walk around, I saw Aris and Seph enter to check out the fantasy books. I went with them for a while while Seph went out for a smoke, until finally, Jun texted me to meet him in front of Powerbooks. And what time was it? Past 9 in the evening. Holy kamote...

It was too crowded to talk in Starbucks or Seattle's Best, so we went upstairs to San Francisco's Best instead. Huwaw, how in the world can I be a PM when I don't even know how? Oh help. We ended up talking more about the new party, thinking of all the bands and people who are up for that kind of music (hahaha, imagine us trying to bring back GLAM ROCK), plus a close venue here in the south because there's too much competition in Makati and Libis. We even went inside AAV to check out Narra Park, but I doubt we can hold it there because the place is too quiet.

Hmmm... I wonder if we could pull off both the CD-songbook idea (and sell it) and the party?

My brother left for Korea this morning, taking the laptop, Gameboy and camera with him. Rawr... Oh well, I can survive without them for two months. Hahaha, I was back in bed this morning when the phone rang. It was Kuya, calling from Hong Kong, where he had to switch planes. As much as I would enjoy having the PC all to myself again, I'm gonna miss the guy.

After months of using the laptop, I'm back to the good ol' PC. I've been used to the laptop's quiet keyboard and touch pad that it actually feels weird to move my hand for the mouse again. Ahahahahaha... But I'm soooo relieved that drive C was the only one that got reformatted. I have so many precious files in drive D. Plus I had to transfer all my files yesterday from the laptop to the PC. Too bad I didn't get to move Yahoo Messenger as well. So I had to download it all over again and re-install it. But hey, at least I can finally use YM Beta! Wheee!

Aw... Ate Maui will be picking Koji up this very afternoon. I'm gonna miss seeing the little critter run around in my room.

I could feel myself getting thinner this summer. Weird, and I hardly did anything these past two months. But all my pants felt looser. And when I ran into Marex last week, he told me that I lost weight.

When I checked the scale this morning, I didn't even lose a pound.

I feel like JM Rodriguez when he started losing weight in his early Rep days. I usually wake up during lunch time so I only get to have 2 meals a day (aside from the usual snacking). Miss Cindy said that JM's sleeping in well into the afternoon was the reason he had to cut his meals, and to think that he even had this "no-eating after 6" rule. So he only had one meal a day.

Interesting. *looks for food for a late lunch*

Ate Maui and her sister Trixie came over this evening to pick up Koji. They even brought us pasalubong from Hong Kong.

Their middle sister Tintin (paging Ari, hehehe), who was my age and was the "mommy" of the rodent, was sick, but sent me a short thank-you letter. She even gave me a little red good luck Buddha as a small token of appreciation. Aw, that's so sweet. Hahaha, it's weird really. We haven't met, but we already have a lot in common. We're the same age, we're both from CSB, we even like Japanese anime. Heck, we even have the same names (but don't you guys even dare call me that).

Aw, I miss the little critter already.

I'm in school right now, using the computer inside the COPs (Council of Presidents) cubicle (ahaha, and it says "For Official Use Only!" in bold letters), trying to get the feel of being back in school. Hahaha, didn't work. I have no sense of time anymore. I thought all my classes were today, but then I get a message from my thesismate that all our classes are on Thursdays. I just had to start the school year this way, hahaha. I guess I'm not used to being in school on the first week of the year. I usually come in sometime during the 2nd week because it's after all the Playshop showcases.

Hahaha, I remember a couple of years ago, when the annual showcase was in Shang. I didn't go to school during the first week as usual, and one of my teachers caught me walking around the mall. As if he didn't know what I do every year. I knew for a fact that he came to watch our TDR, but still accused me jokingly of gimmicking (is that even a word?).

I'm still wondering where the summer went. I felt as if I didn't do anything.

Yesterday, while I was typing the last entry that I posted, I was already looking for something to do for the rest of the day. I got to text Ari, and because all his teachers were no-shows, he was on his way to ATC to meet with Marah. When I told him that I had nothing to do, he invited me to come meet him at the mall as well.

We ended up hanging out outside San Francisco's Best Coffee, while waiting for Marah to wake up and get there, because she slept over at Erkie's house after Erkie's birthday bash at Studio 1 the night before (and I'm still feeling guilty about not going). Anyway, we just kept watching all the people that passed by, commenting on anything we could think of... clothes, cliques, anything.. Hahaha, mean mean mean...

Marah and Erkie, with cousin Lala finally arrived, and we just hung around a bit longer until Erkie and Lala had to leave. Marah then invited me to go with her and Ari to her house, even luring me with pasta (heck, I never say no to pasta, yummmm...).

When we got to her house, Marah was about to make the pasta when her older brother Brian trudged downstairs and offered to make it himself. Hahaha, the funny thing about Bri and I, we've been batchmates in school since we were 6 years old, but we've hardly said anything to each other beyond "hi" and "hello". I guess it's because the entire honor section (where he was in since 7th grade) has isolated themselves from the rest of our batch.

While we waited for the pasta, we hung out in Marah's room, watching videos of her favorite Japanese band from her PC. When the pasta was done, we trooped back downstairs. Ari even insisted to turn on the TV so he can watch pro-wrestling while we eat. Hay nako, he's such a guy, hahahaha.

After eating, we went back upstairs. We watched even more videos, and Marah showed me this Korean music video called "Because of You", and it really moved me to tears. We spent most of our time just hanging out there in the room, kulitan and listening to music. It was pretty surreal, being with my ex-boyfriend and his girlfriend, but it was actually fun, because we were already friends even before anything happened between any of us.

On the way home yesterday evening, Ari and I were talking about what I could do after graduation. I told him about my options, mostly theater companies (I love Atlantis) during theater season, and then events during the off season. But I still wonder what I could do by then. Whatever.
Posted by tymeless on May 26, 2004 at 01:01 PM | How's my acting?
Last night, I found my meager collection of videotapes. Most of it were videos I took during Trumpets Playshop showcase rehearsals since 2001. I took all the rehearsal videos and spent this entire afternoon watching them. It was so hilarious looking back at all our crazy antics. Plus I actually noticed improvement in my camera handling. Hahaha, probably because it was my first time to have full access of our video camera in 2001 (because Kuya always had it with him when he went abroad), and I knew it was really magulo (ala-Blair Witch Project) when Chevy's manning the camera.

When I popped in the video from 2001, it was... chaotic. We were doing an original musical, written by a bunch of us (in the span of one full day at a friend's house). Some people are always off to one side, talking, horsing around, while some are gathered around the keyboard with Ria, and others around Myles. Hahaha, everyone loved how the "I Like You" song was born and written for Eric (Chevy's younger brother) and Alex. Cute kids.

The whole show was pretty cliche and ever so stereotyped. Everyone was typecasted based on looks and preferences. Heck, I was casted as an eccentric artsy weirdo in her own little world. But it's simple anyway, and people couldn't believe we wrote it on our own. Here's something funny. Despite how proud Kris and I were of coming up with this show, we still have Putting It Together on a high pedestal (right, Ari?).

Hahaha, freaky. In one shot, when I panned the entire class, for a moment, Bobby's profile looked so much like Nyoy's.

In the video from 2002, there was much more people. There were too many students in the class that the younger kids grouped themselves together, we older ones hung out more often with each other. When I viewed the class video, there were even some people whose names I already forgot because they just became acquaintances. I got to bond with some of the people (still in the older group) just because of our late-night coffee shop talks after the showcase.

Hahaha, my favorite parts in this video are what you see near the edges of the frame. While a particular scene is being rehearsed, people in the background would notice the camera's red "record" light and then they would smile and wave, or occasional blush and shy away. The one who did the most waves and smiles was Luis, hahahaha! So there, every time I pan the camera across the room, try counting the number of people who would look, smile and wave.

Then there's the "hula-hoop tournament" that Chevy, Eric, Karl, Jamie and Mikki did. Because the entire showcase is a collection of vignettes, each of us would wait for our scene to be rehearsed, and we would stay in the mall until midnight. We were so bored out of our minds one night that we took out all the hula-hoops kept in the "teacher's lounge" (equipped with Jamie's beanbag, TV and PS2, Dein's air bed, Tita Luna's supply of rice crackers, and my pillows), and then went outside the venue and played with them. It was so freakin' hilarious. No one really knew how to hula-hoop, so all you hear is the clatter of hoops to the floor and contagious laughter.

Then there's the one from last year. Because of the campy musical we did, we all had the perky open smiles down pat. And there's always this annoying pair of bunny ears that Karl and Lawyn always wore. It actually came from the Children's Theater class, but because Lawyn and I had keys and full access to the storage room, we sometimes get it to fool around along with a couple of pillows the kids leave behind.

Hahaha, if Luis was the one always smiling for the camera the year before, Marex is the ham from last year.

Hmm... there's always talk about reunions and stuff like that, but it never seems to happen. I swear, when there will be one for any of these classes, I'm bringing the video to it. I was already rolling on the floor with laughter with all the stuff I saw this afternoon. Imagine a room full of the people you were goofing around with and watching the same crazy videos.

    I miss those people.

Saw this from friend Shan's Friendster bulletin board. Just want to share this with you guys.

    SILLY TESTIMONIALS

is it really necessary to ask for testimonials?

so far this hasnt happened to me but i know that some people go as far as walking u to his/her/your pc and making u type one ON THE SPOT.. HarHarHar

sorry, i juz really find it silly..

a LOT of testimonials seem to begin with the usual "here's your testi na.. sorry it took so long". Simula pa lang alamo na that the person
was juz obligated to make it.

what about those testi's that overly promote the person then the common "o testi ko ha!" slapped at the end.

    napapa-NYEH na lang ako!.. HaHa..

    pero eto malupit..
nothing and i mean NOTHING beats the walang katapusang "FRIEND KO TO!"

    WHATS UP WITH THAT?!?!??!?!?!?!???!!!

Do people even know what "testimonial" means?

I still don't get why people ask for testimonials or make testimonials expecting one in return..

doesnt that kill the essence of the testimonial?

    juz a thought.. =)

    I totally agree with this.

I mean, the heck is the big deal about those testimonials? And why is everyone still making a big deal over this Friendster craze? I mean, the whole purpose of the site is so you can reconnect with the people you once knew and meet knew friends and find out who's friends with or who's connected to who and all that. But some people just don't get it. They add and add people they don't know so they can show others who view their profile how many friends they have. My brother was a perfect example of this last week, showing off not just how many friends he has in his list, but also bragging how many non-Filipinos he knew.

Concerning testimonials, I love the way Shan wrote it. I mean, it's annoying how people ask and ask and eventually bug me to write them a testimonial. Some would even say, "Naka-login ka sa Friendster? Gawan mo ko ng testi!" Face it, guys, what is a testimonial? "Testify". And it should be well thought out and written. That's why I hardly write testimonials. It's annoying how people bug me and say, "Ey, ginawan kita ng testi... Gawan mo rin ako." Nyak...

    Nyahahaha... just ranting.

I only have Thursday classes this term, and they're only two subjects. Nyak, why am I saying the word "only"? One of them is actually thesis, so that's not just major, it's MAJOR. And the other one? It was Tecthe4, igh... Nyahaha, we hate it so much because our teacher flunked the entire class last year.

Anyway, we had the same teacher for Tecthe4, Sir Jay. I had always looked up to the guy when he was only teaching Stagecraft and Lighting Tools, but after every subject, it gets harder to do so. And for this particular subject we currently have, we're still going to do the same stuff all over again. Gak.

We went crazy this afternoon over thesis. When we first went downstairs to reserve the theater for the days we have in mind, to our dismay, the venue was booked for the entire year! Holy kamote. We were supposed to have it reserved last term, but we were told to come back at the beginning of the term. And now we find out it's fully booked? Rawr. But then we decided to return after a while, with a new plan in mind. We checked what department was reserved for our selected week, and when we found out it was for the yearbook, we went to their office. As it turned out, they weren't really going to use the theater, so they let us have the slots! Yay! Thank you so much, SPO!

Jun called this evening, asking how our thesis is. And he offered to help us get sponsors through his company, as long as they get commission. Paging Rain! He's willing to help us! I don't really mind if his company gets a cut, as long as we have money coming in. Wheee! Thanks, Jun!

Yay, I'm watching Trumpets Playshop Alabang's Master Class showcase tomorrow. It's called Shakespeare Rocks, coolness. Anna, Chevy, CJ, Lawyn, Mae, Sarah and Gary (woohoo! Original Alabang MT class rules!) are all gonna be in it. Kathy, Marex and I are planning to watch the afternoon show. Nyahaha, and hopefully, maybe the Trumpeteers will let me stick around or something afterwards so I can watch the evening show for free. Nyak, as if.

Went to school yesterday morning, then decided to go to Makati after lunch. I wanted to walk around Glorietta before going to Insular Life in Filinvest to watch the master class’ Playshop showcase which started at 4 in the afternoon, but because of time constraints, I couldn’t go window-shopping anymore and went straight to the shuttle terminal. I took a shuttle that passed by Filinvest and arrived at Insular at almost 4 pm.

I was supposed to watch the show with Kathy and Marex, but Kathy had to go to Tagaytay, so it was just Marex and me. When I reached the lobby, familiar faces greeted me. Kiwi, Joel and Kat at the ticket table, Tita Luna and Tita Menchu (with Nicole) standing nearby. Marex waiting for me by the window. Pam, Mikki and Eric hanging around near one of the entrances. Aw, I miss this environment.

As soon as I got my ticket, Marex and I went inside and sat in the row where Pam and Eric were sitting. Hahaha, the first thing that Marex said was, “Aw… I’m so inggit. They have a set.” Onstage, there were throw rugs, 4 canvas-backed chairs, rolls of paper, and pairs of shoes scattered around surrounding the rugs. Very simple, but it amused me.

Tito Freddie first went upstage, telling us a bit about what was to come. It was actually Trumpets’ first attempt of putting together a master class composed of people who want to take theater more seriously. After he said those words, I wanted to cry, regretting not signing up for it. Imagine being in another pioneer group established right there in Alabang. Anyway, he talked a bit more, warning about the Shakesperean text, “so if you don’t know what they’re saying, just ignore it and keep watching.” Hahaha. Then he gave the floor to two students from the public speaking class, who introduced the show. Jeez, the girl on the right was extremely nervous, the way her hand were shaking and how she kept shuffling her crib sheet, not looking at the audience. Oh well. On with the show.

So the whole thing is actually about Love, Hate... and then Love again, fusing together the words of Shakespeare with Broadway songs. Some songs were altered, some were not, but it was a good mix. Hahaha, I loved how Lawyn played all three daughters in a scene from King Lear. Her shift from one character to another was quite good. There’s this one guy who transferred from the intermediate class to the master class, and he ended up singing “One Song Glory” from Rent.

    Marex: Is that chest hair?
    Me: I have no idea.

As I leaned over to ask Pam the same thing, the guy suddenly unzipped his leather jacket to reveal his uhm, well-drawn-in-pen “chest hair”. Wahahahahahaha!

They sang some of my favorite songs! There was “Someone Like You” from Jekyll and Hyde by Sarah, and “Someone Else’s Story” from Chess by Mae. The most hilarious one was “I Know Him So Well” (also from Chess), sung by all the girls in the class. It was supposed to be about two girls liking the same guy, but what they did was all the girls were all in one place, supposedly to meet this guy, and they all realized that they all liked the same person! Hahaha, hilarious how they all came in and realization hit.

Holy kamote, Chevy sang “Why God” from Miss Saigon. Huwaw. Bow ako sa iyo.

The funniest part of the show that I loved was when Chevy and this other girl named Pam went onstage. Chev started reading a sonnet line by line, alternating with Pam, who translated the words literally in Filipino. Hahaha, when they got to the parts where some of those words had these “est” in the end, it was hilarious that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. When Chev said a word, say like, “receivest” at the end of the line, Pam would end it with “tatanggapinsst. WAHAHAHAHAHA! It’s like the “sst” trend that’s been going around.

As usual, Anna was spectacular when she sang “I’ve Never Been In Love Before”. Bow din ako sa iyo, Anns, as usual. Teeheehee, you still look like Lea when you sing.

Another thing that made me regret not joining? Everyone in the class had solo songs. Grr…

By the end of the show, I was cheering and “huwawing” like crazy while Marex shouted their names. We met up with Lawyn and Mae and everyone else outside at the lobby, congratulating them for a job well done. I practically walked over to everyone I knew. Hahaha, Gary still remembers me! And I thought the whole summer that he forgot who I was because there were some occasions that I’d see him head to class and just pass by me.

At the last minute, I decided to stick around to watch the evening show, heeheehee.

I was getting hungry by then, and a bunch of them wanted to go to Festival Mall the buy food. Eric wanted to go to Asian and eat there, so Pam and I went with him. He went to his dad’s first, then we went to the cafeteria to eat. Afterwards we went outside so Eric can smoke, and we just hung around, just talking, until it was time for Pam and me to go back to Insular. We actually walked all the way there from the hospital, but heck, as if I’m not used to it.

Ehehehe, I was already wondering what Kiwi and June V and the other would say when they see me wanting to watch the second show as well. Pam and I went to the bathroom first, and we found Bea, Nicole and this other girl (I forgot her name, but I see her around at the Akafellas gigs) in there. Man, I missed Bea. Such a sweet and bubbly girl that I wanted Eric to regret ever breaking up with her, hahaha. Kiwi just said that I could just go in, but I actually got shy, so I just jokingly told June, “Libre mo ko!” Gak, he actually took it seriously and we handed out money at the same time. He said that I can just go ahead and take the ticket, but I still held out my money. Kiwi wouldn’t take it, so I just paid for Bea’s ticket.

Pam and I sat at a different place for the 2nd show, and when Dari walked in, he sat down next to us. Hahaha, in the darkness, I introduced Pam to him.

The second show was OK, but I cringed at the Mike guy who sang “One Song Glory”. He forgot his lines, and it showed! Unlike Lawyn’s “Tell Me On A Sunday”, who forgot her lines, but we didn’t notice until she told us about it after the show. Chevy’s blocking for “Without You” and “Why God” was different, but we were told that that was his original blocking. The first show was different because he didn’t have a wireless mic.

After the show, they were finally given their certificates. Congrats to Mae, Lawyn, Anna, Sarah, CJ, Chevy, Ria, Gary and the rest of Playshop Alabang’s Master Class!

When the house lights went on, everyone got to their feet. I didn’t really know whether to go to the lobby already and mingle, because the class was still backstage. When I left my seat to follow Dari, he was already talking to Jun. Hahaha, he actually managed to catch up. He was texting me earlier that evening to tell him if the show had already started so he can catch up to watch.

We all went to the lobby then, just talking, waiting for the cast to come out. When we saw Tita Luna and asked about Jamie, she said that he hardly ever goes out, and told us that we ought to take him out sometime. Heck, yeah, we should. We were just there for quite a while, and then Lawyn and Mae told us to join them at Anna’s house. Oooh, cast party. We walked the two with Anna and Mikki to Mae’s car, then Jun, Dari and I boarded Jun’s. We first took Dari home, and then we started thinking whether to go to Anna’s house or not. Sure, we knew people there, but we might feel out-of-place because of the newer ones in the group, so we decided not to anymore and just head home. We called Lawyn and told her we weren’t coming anymore, but insisted we all go out another time. We miss the old MT1 (2002) crowd.

Aw… I still regret not joining.

Last Saturday afternoon, I went to Greenbelt 1 to meet up with Peachy. Supposedly, we had planned to meet up after that Seventeen Ponds Glam Camp thing at the Expo Exchange, but when I got to Greenbelt, she got me to go in as well. Hahaha, I managed to snag a free shirt because of that. Anyway, I joined her and friend Diana, and we sat around while a couple of girls made up another girl onstage. There was a break in between wherein we get to have all the pasta and iced tea we wanted, then we left and went to Onstage to meet with Meynard and Jeremy.

Found Jeremy in the lobby, and then he told us that we were just to usher the people who held tickets labeled “Sponsor” on them to the seats that were reserved for them. Easy enough, only Jeremy was the one who had the only copy of the list of sponsors and assigned seats. Ngak. He then said that he’ll come back at 7pm (an hour after that), so we went back inside Expo just in time for Kate Torralba to talk about designing shirts and stuff.

When it was time for everyone to design their own shirts, we decided to return to Onstage. A little bit of loitering at the lobby with Cathy (who was selling programs there), then Jeremy said that they were finally letting the sponsors in. Nyak, he still didn’t let go of the darn list so we had to follow him. We felt kinda useless for quite a while because Jeremy was doing all the ushering, so when he stood in the middle of one row of reserved seats, we had a few chances. Surprise, surprise, old blockmate Fred happened to be a sponsor (with girlfriend and his family in tow). I haven’t seen that guy in at least a year. As it turned out, his sister was in the showcase as well.

Jeremy had to go backstage then, so he handed me the list (finally). We did a lot of standing around, because most of the sponsors didn’t come in till later. Found lotsa familiar faces in the crowd, such as Niki, Ninoy, Carl, and even Ariel was there. Then I saw the band standing around at the edge of stage left, so I went over to say hi to Rony and Manman. Hahaha, because the show was Forbidden Broadway, they were all wearing production shirts from Atlantis. There was Urinetown, Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Tick Tick Boom, and Rent. Hahaha, and Rony even wore his Honk! jacket over his Urinetown shirt. Nice concept, guys.

When the show was almost about to start, I found Jeremy emerge from backstage, and I handed him the sponsor list. He said that we can take the unoccupied seats if the ticket holders won’t arrive 5 minutes after the show began. Hehehe, so there, I snagged one of the seats, while Peachy sat in the aisle with Diana and her other Rep friends.

The show was pretty good, actually. Forbidden Broadway with the class’ personal flavor. It was hilarious, and I couldn’t help howling with laughter from my seat. I didn’t even care how loud I was. Heeheehee.

When the show ended, we went onstage and congratulated all the people we knew (heck, the only person I know in the cast was Rich), then Peachy and I grabbed a cab and off we went to Dish. Hahaha, while we were along Edsa, Peach said, “Magkabilang dulo pala yung Makati and QC.” HAHAHAHAHAHA!

We managed to arrive at Dish in time for the ‘Fellas to sing a bunch more songs. At our table, there was Tita Sherbet, Tito Sunny, Jill, Teena, Mic, Chiko, Mika, Sybil, Aileen, Ate Tere, June, Rommel, and Leslie. I just met Leslie that night, but as it turned out, she already saw me last Friday night at Insular Life because she happened to be one of the hosts in Love/Hate Shakespeare’s evening show. Coolness. Ingrid was also there at Dish, so we met up and I introduced her to the Akakada.

Wahahaha, when I told Paulo about Pam’s showcase that night, he texted her right away. “Walanghiya ka, you didn’t tell me you had a showcase tonight…” Nyak, hahahaha. Then I told him about the Master Class’ showcase, and how it was. Waaah, I still keep thinking that I should’ve been there.

I left with Peachy and the Ilacads when South Border had played a handful of songs. Peach and I hung around with Jill and Tita Sherbet in Jill’s room for a while, talking and snacking. Naks, girl bonding, hahahaha. Jill offered to sleep in her parents’ room so Peach and I stayed in her room to sleep. Ehehehe, funny ni Peach when I plugged in the bedside lamp, because it was a touch lamp. Hmmm… I think we fell asleep at around 4:30 or so in the morning.

    Next entry… backstage at ABS-CBN…

Welcome to the chaotic world of local television… That’s what I told myself yesterday.

After breakfast, Jill, Peachy and I dressed up and went to ABS-CBN. We met Peachy’s two friends (both named Camille) at Starbucks, then waited for Nina’s roadie (or was she a PA, Peach?) to pick us up from there. We were led inside the building, and then we stood around outside the dressing rooms, watching the people pass by. After a while, we decided to go inside the dressing rooms. Huwaw, people everywhere. Minor celebrities, parents, PAs, gofers, kids… Gah… That’s when I said to myself, “Welcome to the chaotic world of local television.” I’ve told myself time and again never to go into the local television scene.

So what in the world did we do there? Nothing much, just mingled. With Nina, King (both for Peachy, Camille, and Camille), Bito, Ate Glow, Erik (Santos, for Jillie), Mark (Bautista, pictures for Maika), Luke (Mejares), Sarah (Geronimo), etc… Holy kamote, the whole time we were there, I didn’t really know where I should be. I told Jill I felt helpless just sitting or standing around amidst all the activity. I’ve been so used to being one of the people going around crazily, talking to the artists and “talents” (hahaha…), getting them ready to go onstage and stuff, that I had this awkward feeling when I was there. I was dying to do something than just sit and talk and take advantage of photo-ops.

Nyahahaha, Bito still called me “Carmichael” when she first saw me (because of Hoagy Carmichael, one of her favorite musicians). Huwatsdaaaat.

One of the funniest moments was when Jill and I were sitting with Jordan Herrera, right after Ate Glow had talked to Tito Sunny over Jill’s phone. We were just laughing and joking around with him when Ate Glow asked us, “Pano kayo nagkakilala [ni Jordan]?” Jill and I just stared blankly for a while and said, “Huh? Wala lang, nagkausap lang kami ngayon.” Ahahahaha…

Teeheehee, Jillie was in stalker mode with Erik whenever he was there in the room. *winks*

As for Peachy… she and the two Camilles kept flocking from one room to another, sometimes going to the other building where ASAP was really at. When they came back after a second time from there, Peach told me that she saw Ian at the other place. So after lingering around as the other artists dressed up and left (and Peachy just had to take one last picture of Sarah), we all went to the other building, with Peach leading the way.

Everywhere I looked, flurry of activity was there, but I still kept reminding myself that this is local TV, not some theater production. When we got outside the dressing room, Peachy just had to open the door, to reveal a monitor just inside showing Ian singing South Border’s “Rainbow”. Ahahaha, nice timing. So we ended up hanging around outside the door. I even saw Paul, a Benildean who graduated from Production Design, with an all-dressed-up friend who was also waiting for Ian.

My back was turned to the way leading to the ASAP set, so it was Jill and Peachy who told me that Ian was coming. Ahahaha, unfortunately his way was blocked by a cart full of huge monitors being transported somewhere, so he climbed on the table that was next to me. When he saw me, he said, “Hogi… you died your hair. OJT ka dito?” Nyak, as if I would want to work as OJT there. Tempting, but no thanks. WAHAHAHA, as usual, he still had that sort-of deadma tone. I introduced Jill and Peachy to him as we stood in the doorway (hahaha, blocking everyone’s way) We chatted for a few moments then he said he had to dress up.

We were getting hungry (we haven’t eaten lunch yet), so I popped my head in the dressing room door and told Ian we had to go. I mentioned a few stuff about rackets (and how he didn’t reply to my message before concerning getting him as one of my talents) and his gigs, and then my racket-hungry (and literally just plain hungry) self got his number in case I need him for future events. Of course, like what Franco told me before, he told me to not give out his number to just anyone, and even advised me to change his name in my phone list, hahaha.

There was this PA that was getting annoyed at how much people were crowding the place we were standing at, so we finally left and went to Starbucks to wait for Tito Sunny to pick us up. There was this group of people waiting outside the entrance, and apparently, what this group does is just sit around the whole day waiting for celebrities to come out to have their picture taken with them. Nyak, freaky. They’re like professional stalkers.

We went back to Jill’s house and had a late lunch, more talking, and we even called up Maika to tell her that we were supposed to call her earlier so she can talk to Mark Bautista. But since she didn’t reply till we arrived at Jill’s house, we just told her about that.

We spent the evening in Jill’s room, huddled up in front of her PC, checking out some certain sites, pointing out this and that. Ahehehehe, we’re so mean. When it was dinner time, we all piled up in Tito Sunny’s car and ate at Tempura. Mmmm… Japanese food, but I had the California Maki, and as it turned out, Jill and Peachy’s diet became contagious, ngak. I should’ve gotten the teriyaki without any rice.

So there, that was my weekend, in two parts.

Uploaded pics from yesterday to my gallery. Check it out here...

I was told by a friend yesterday that I should get paid for some things I did. Actually, I'm not doing anything for the money. I just do it because I enjoy doing it. Sure, if I get paid, I don't really ask for it. It was like this one racket last year that I offered to work for, expecting that I only get paid in kind (to be more specific, I'm working for food). I was actually surprised when the racket was almost done, I was told that I was going to be paid.

Being behind the scenes in everything is my passion. Be it in theatre or any other show, that's what I enjoy doing, and it's not for the money. The things I like getting in return are gaining new friends, seeing the hard work pay off, and the workout I get for running around instead of sitting around on my bum all day.

    Oh well.
