Entries for July, 2004

First of all...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ARI!!!

This morning, I went to the photo shop near school first to have pictures printed out. I needed to submit those pictures to the yearbook office, so that was the first thing I did. Then off I went to my aunt's parlor so I can have my mom's old 70s dress copied. I had the new dress I'm going to have with a smaller waistline, plus I want mine to be flared out more. Hahaha, a few years ago, when I tried on that very dress, the waist was too tight. Now it's too loose. I also added a belt as an accent, heeheehee... Can't wait to wear it to my thesis.

When I went back to school, the pictures were almost ready to I waited at the photo shop to pick it up, then went to the yearbook office to complete my requirements, having submitted my write-up last Wednesday.

After that, I went back to Las Pinas to Ari's house. Because I had thesis rehearsal in the evening and I had to be there, I couldn't be at his party tonight. So I decided to hang around at his place in the afternoon until I had to go back to school. It was only him and Ate Pamps when I got there, but Dein arrived after a while. He was recovering from typhoid fever, so he looked kinda tired.

Thanks to Zernan and Alys, we got to choreograph the square-dancing part of "One More Angel In Heaven" tonight. The brothers had to be paired with the wives, but then there were only 3 girls present, so I had to stand in as one of them. I had to dance with Nicco, and then Miss Cindy and Rain quipped that I'm gonna be part of the cast! Hahahahaha!

Just one thing to rant on. If someone does something wrong, stop complaining. Just point out what you did wrong and do something to fix it. Guys, nag-aaksaya lang tayo ng oras pag pinagtripan natin lahat ng mali na pinagrerekalamo. Spending your time complaining will not take you anywhere. And keep a cool head, dude. Tama na ang reklamo pag may palpak. I know you're just taking it out on us, just because some people are bringing you down. If something personal is bothering you, just forget it. You're not being professional that way.

Anyway, I gotta get going for now. Kinda tired, need sleep, and I have a long day tomorrow.

Hahahaha, huwatsdaaat... He's soooo funny. Sabi ko PRODUCTION ang hinahanap kong work eh. Still malabo as ever, I see.

Yesterday, I asked David what time I was needed at Moon Palace for the shoot, because I needed to be someplace else by 4pm. He then said that I'm supposed to be there at 11:30 am.

11:30 on the dot, I was there. And what did I do? Nothing. I napped, I ate (the jerky Tito Edgar brought was addictive!), mingled. That was it. We were supposed to reshoot the best man speech, but because Anna wasn't there yet, we had to wait. She arrived at almost half an hour before I had to leave. When it was almost 3:30, I told David and Gina that I had to go, so I left my dress with them so they could at least show it in some of the scenes.

Teena picked me up from the restaurant, and off we went to the Akastudio for rehearsal. The guys were there, minus Ikey, plus Franco and Kyla. Then KC, Bea and Caisa arrived.

Hahaha, favorite moments:

  • When Teena took out the Ziploc bags of "sangloff" (one was cheese pimiento, and another strawberry), everyone who would see it would curiously pick it up and say "What's this?" Teena, your "sangloff" was a hit! First it was Robi, then now Karl, hahaha.

  • I told Paulo that it was Ari's birthday yesterday, so he decided to text him. First he checked his phone to ask if the number that he had was still the same... Then instead of sending a message, he deleted the number by accident! Ahahahahaha! So I had to give him Ari's number again. Can you say "DB"?

  • There weren't any glasses for the 2 bottles of Pepsi, so we all had to take turns drinking straight from the bottle. Hahaha, at least it saves us from more cleanup, right?

    Quotes:
"We have something new in the repertoire... It's "Nasaan... And it's gonna be sung by me!"
    (Bwahahahahaha...)
"Nasan na yung Hawaiian? I love Hawaiian."
(Ehehehe, isn't everyone sick of pineapples on pizza already?)

    Hahaha, what a lame title.

Just got home about 15 minutes ago. Came from Myke's place, where we had rehearsals with the rest of the Akafellas, Christian, KC (with cousin in tow), Nica, Elea, and of course, Teena, Franco and Kyla.

Anyway, I'll get back to that in a jiffy.

Went to school in the afternoon to drop off my Joseph study tape and the rehearsal day's attendance sheet because I won't be at the rehearsal. Then I ended up hanging out at the SIO for a while with Me-an and Rain. I was just sitting there with them, my sides aching with laughter because of Rain's usual stories about their block. The door opened then, so I instinctively looked in that direction (the YFC/MMX cubicle was right next to the door). Surprise! Arnel was there.

While I was helping him take out a book for a friend, I found out that one of his rackets was working at the set of ASAP Fanatic. Ahahahaha, he was already working there when I visited ABS twice! But he said that I can go there to help or observe if I want. Coolness!

Went to the Shang where Teena picked me up, then back on the road. We were along Ortigas when June called Teena's phone, telling us that the 'Fellas had just started their set at this gig in UP. So we had time to grab an evening snack somewhere in Tomas Morato. We ended up at this bakeshop there (Teens, ano ulit yun?) until June called again telling us that the guys' set was done. So off we went to Myke's place.

We were the first ones there, so we sat around at the stairway til they arrived (minus Ikey and Reubs). The girls then joined us, and not long after that, Mr. Christian Bautista (ahahahaha...) arrived.

People were sort of asking about food by then, so Kyla told me to order something. Ngak, Robi went ahead and ordered food for his own, along with 10 orders of taho. Ended up calling Pizza Hut with the usual orders (then of course, every pizza came with one free Hawaiian-style of the same size). This time, I got to ask for cups to go with the soda, so we don't have to swap spit with each of us drinking straight from the bottle, ahahaha.

Rehearsed one of Ian's songs (something by Josh Groban, I forgot which one though) before we took a break. Of course, we had to break the news that there was still Hawaiian-style pizza, ahahaha. Ayaw na daw ni Elea ng pinya!

During the break, Robi, Nica, and Elea were quoting stuff from Robi's dad. Then someone brought up the word "D.O.M.", and Robi quipped, "I'm a Y.O.M.!" Nyak, ang laboooooo!!! Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Teena scribbling what he said so she can post it somewhere, mwehehehehe...

    One more Robi quote:
"Hey, they got it all wrong! 'No instruments... Just voices'... But we have a band!"

Another quote, this time from Ian..
(When I commented about his hair.)
"They said that my hair was too black."
Huh? Is there such a thing as "too black"? Ahahahahaha!

They rehearsed the Broadway medley after the break. Then Franco let the girls go, and gave the guys some announcement concerning their schedule and stuff. Then they did a bit of "Where's The Love" before we all left.

Hitched a ride with Robi back to the south. When I told him to drop me off at ATC, he insisted he take me straight home because of the time. Thanks, Robi! Though I guess he wasn't used to the fact that I can still commute at that hour. Hahaha, I'm quite the commuter.

    Sleepy time. G'night--er...good morning, world.

Just my luck. I have to stay up late tonight for my Tecthe4 midterms, and my eyes are red and sore.

Didn't get to go to the sitzprope this evening. Instead, I was in the music room in school with the rest of the Joseph cast. We had music rehearsals during the U-break, but Sir Jed said that they still need lots of polishing to do, so we scheduled another music rehearsals in the evening. We were supposed to do choreography with Zernan and Alys, but because either couldn't make it, I agreed to the music rehearsals.

A new addition to the cast was brought in by Jun-jun. Ahahaha, it was Kevin, who happened to be the Joseph alternate in the LSGH production.

    Funny quote of the evening...
Rain: *leans over to Kevin and whispers* Ikaw na si Asher.
    Kevin: Ako si Usher?
    Wahahahahahaha...
Posted by tymeless on July 7, 2004 at 11:00 PM | How's my acting?
I didn't get much sleep last night because I had to finish putting my Tecthe4 report/midterms together. I was uber anxious because heck, it was the same teacher who flunked us the year before. For the midterms this morning, we had to be in business attire, and I didn't even bother bringing any extra clothes because I already had a lot of stuff in my bag.

I was the very first one in the hot seat. Each of us had half an hour to explain our assigned chapters. And I actually survived, hahaha.

After thesis class, I went to Greenbelt for the DTR of the Akafellas concert at the onstage theater. Even until now, I still don't understand why Franco does DTRs a week before the show. *shrug* What is basically done in a DTR is practically how the show will run. But I guess what he thought a DTR meant was getting to use the mics and stage. Oh well, he's the boss, and I was too tired to argue.

I can't believe I managed to survive the whole day wearing heeled leather shoes.

Anyway, Teena, Leslie (a newly-hired SM) and I spent a good deal of going around, even going out to buy stuff. As expected, Franco had us put masking tape on the floor to help with the blocking and choreo. When he showed us the set design, it was brilliant (Rent-inspired, even). But to my dismay, there was no floor plan. The perspective view of the design wasn't much help either, because there wasn't much depth (hay, Hogi, stop being so critical again). So I had to draw up my own floor plan interpretation of the set before we went to work laying the tape down.

Ian was there, of course, to rehearse his songs with the 'fellas again, including their blocking (not much of it, really). So were his manager, Sir Carlo (hahaha, back in our Narnia days, I used called him "Tito Carlo", but I doubt he still remembers me) and David. Hahaha, when Ian sat down on the stage's apron directly in front of me (we SMs had to take down blocking notes so I sat on the floor in front of the stage), I couldn't help it. I just had to tease and say, "Ohmygod! It's Christian Bautista!" Hence I received the one raised eyebrow, ahahaha.

Me: *to Teena* See? Like Reuben, his hair looks weird in normal light.
Ian: You dyed your hair too.
Uhm, yes, I can see that.

Then of course, we had to rehearse the Broadway medley, as Kyla did the blocking. Once again, we had to scribble and take down all the blocking notes. Holy kamote. I'm used to normal blocking notes, not quick blocking with choreo. But it's a fun challenge, actually.

And now, here's another dose of funny quotes...

Ian: (as he was saying goodbye to everyone) I love this job! I get to kiss all the girls!

Leslie: (after having sat on a wet patch on the carpet) I feel wet...

Then there was this annoying buzzing sound from the speaker due to static...
    *Kszzzzzh*
Myke: (immediately after the static) ...At sa iba pang mga balita...

    Time to get some rest.

Got this in the email today...

Hi. We at Chalk Magazine received your application to be an official student correspondent. And are delighted to deliver the news that you have been chosen to be part of the family. As an OSC, you get the privilege to help out in our photoshoots, write for the magazine and be invited in the activities and seminars we have lined up for everybody.

    Blah, blah, blah...

I emailed them about applying as OSC months ago. Well, okay, during the summer. And they got back to me just now. But hey, it's cool that I got in.

I'm still wondering about something, though...

...Will they still publish my article?

Went to Shang late yesterday morning for an Akafellas dance rehearsal, so Kyla can fix the choreography of the Broadway medley. The guys were so late (save for Roger, who got there even before I did). Hahaha, when Kyla's phone rang...

Kyla: *walking towards her bag to get her phone* "Why are you late?"
*looks at the caller and answers the call*
    Kyla: Why are you late?
Nyak, tama bang i-practice ang annoyed tone of voice? Ahahahaha...

Teena, Leslie and I settled ourselves on the stage while the guys and the girls were in front of the mirrors with Kyla. Checked their blocking in my notebook, which was kinda hard to decipher by then because I wasn't really looking down at it while I was taking it down at Onstage, hahaha.

After their rehearsal, the guys had to go to Novaliches, so we all dispersed. I had to walk to Moon Palace restaurant for the Wedding shoot again.

Annoying, we had to reshoot some more scenes because of the damn audio again. I'm getting so pissed at our director already because he should've been finished by now. Heck, we should've finished this by the end of last month. I had to shoot this scene with Ari again, and then nothing. And I thought he mapped out his shooting schedule well. And there were these long periods of breaks in between. Arggg...

So we ended at what time? 4 in the morning.

I'm still lacking sleep. And we have to go back to the shoot again today.

Joseph pictorials were this evening. We had everyone (cast and crew) bring black outfits for the pictures. But we also had the cast bring retro outfits as well.

I was supposed to be just a "stage filler" in the cast. A swing, hehehe. So I just decided not to join the retro shot and just brought a black outfit (plus the fact that my dress is still being fixed). I had this black wraparound top that looks like a halter (which I bought from Bing a couple of years ago but haven't had the guts to wear), but I put a black-and-white see-through top over it. Then when Precious and the OJTs for costumes arrived with more retro clothes, I found this pink-and-orange top with huge ruffles. I decided to wear it and join the retro group picture.

So we first did solo photos of each cast member, as well as solos for us (thesis mates) and the wardrobe crew (with Precious and Maga). DC came along, and he was a huge help by posing the group shots.

Finally, it was time for the retro outfits. After I had switched the black-and-white top with the pink-and-orange one, DC wanted to do something about my long hair. So with the help of Cris and Kathy, the pinned it up to make my hair look teased or something. I honestly had no idea what they were doing to my hair.

While those three were playing with my tresses, I had a good view of the door, so it was amusing watching everyone come in from the bathrooms in their retro outfits. Some of them practically looked authentic, like Dale's long and curly hair that matched the colorful graffitti pants from wardrobe, Rian's wig and sunglasses, the girls' colorful skirts... heck, most of the girls clothes had pink in them.

Man, I really can't wait for those pictures.

I'm at home right now with red eyes. I think they hate the brand of eye makeup I was wearing yesterday.

I went to school for my yearbook pictorial. Hahaha, after having my makeup done, I was led into the room where the pictures are being taken and I was given a toga to wear with the appropriate sash thing (hahaha, I have no idea what it's called) then waited for my turn. Nyak, after having my set of pics taken, hirit naman ng photographer, "Parang sanay ka na ah!" Huwatsdaaaat...

Then I was told to change for my creative shot. Yikes. What I brought with me was the preppie-schoolgirl outfit I put together: Plaid yellow kilt, white blouse with a red long-sleeved shirt over it, white thigh-high socks, and black leather mary jane shoes. But my skirt was way too short that I was afraid that if I change in the bathroom, a D.O. might catch me while I was on the way back. So I went to the bathroom to put on my top, socks and shoes, then returned to the venue. Hahahaha, I had to borrow one toga so I could change from my jeans to the skirt, because there was no where else to change. And then of course, I borrowed a prop from Ari. It was the Stitch doll that Marah gave him for his birthday. I was kind of shy at first but when I struck a pose, the photographer snapped a picture right away! Nyak. Anyway, we had a second pose, so I borrowed another prop from the pile they provided. The first thing that caught my eye was the fake guitar. I took it from the pile, then struck another pose, and the camera clicked instantly once again! The photographer laughed and said, "Buti na lang nasa gitna ka na!" Ngak.

Met up with Teena at Greenbelt so we can go to the sitzprobe together. I got to see Ate Tere after a long time! Wheee!

Anyway, at Tonequest, almost everyone is out if it because of sickness. Heck, Red couldn't even sing. As for Reubs, he didn't open his mouth unless he had to sing. Funny, while I was re-writing down the lineup, he came up to me, then showed me his phone's screen... "Ano yan" was typed in. Ahahaha... And then we ended up doing a bit of finger-spelling in sign language.

Hahaha, during the car ride home with Robi, Caisa and Kyla, we started talking about these mispronunciations, starting with the airplane guy Kyla mentioned, that said "loptop".

Kyla: Pero at least consistent sya! Inulit pa nya nung end ng flight. "Loptop".

    Then there.

Robi: Someone even thought I was "Robi Darusco" after hearing me on the radio.
    (Wahahahaha! It's Robi THE RASCAL!)
    *everyone laughs*
Robi: It's like that guy who recognized me before. They thought our group was called the "Apalipos". He came up to me and asked "Excuse me, are you part of that group? The Apalipos? The ones that sing acapella?" He knew acapella, but he didn't get our name right.
Kyla: Hahahaha! Robi Darusco of the Apalipos!

I was sitting in front of my computer yesterday morning, just thinking of what to put in my write-up for our thesis' souvenir program. Heck, I didn't want to recycle my old write-up from last year's program, so I decided to make a new one. (Thank you for the help, Teena!)

Looking back on my first year as a stage crew member, I couldn't help but smile. I was a shy, starstruck newbie who was usually quiet unless Lea Salonga and the director wasn't around. I was kinda timid, not knowing what to do, so there was never a day where I would ask a million questions about what to do with what, complete with question marks all over my face because of all the theatre jargon.

Skipping to a couple of months after that, I became an assistant teacher, assistant director and part-time stage manager for a basic musical theater class composed of pre-teens and early teens. Once again, I was quiet, and I had difficulty being firm to my students. I left it all to Myles, the head teacher, and Rony, our repetiteur, to handle them. All I could was say, "Quiet backstage!" every once in a while.

Fast forward to this year. If you hadn't seen the development over the past couple of years, it would be hard to believe that I was the same person. I finally had confidence in myself, and I knew what to do without any questions. I wasn't quiet and timid anymore; I learned how to be firm (being mataray is still in the works, hahaha!), and half the people I know can't understand all the jargon I've learned from my teachers! Holy kamote, hahahaha... I was actually surprised at myself these past few weeks. For someone who didn't know how to get mad, I could sometimes see my eyebrows knit together at the slightest hirit of a space-case (there's always one at every show, wahahahahahaha!), or if something doesn't go my way.

Hahaha, looking at the word "space-case" in the previous paragraph made me laugh. Every time we encounter one of these people, I could practically hear Miss Bernice's voice in my head saying, "Hay nako! Never mind, never hired!"

Anyway, people-headaches and pressures aside, it's all good.

*Thanks to my Atlantis family, Trumpets and my SDA teachers who taught me everything I know. Uber-thanks as well to the people I've worked with. It's a joy to be with you guys.

Little update about this techie wannabe.

Been uber busy with thesis lately, because we have less than a week left. Artistically, things are finally falling into place. But financially? Well, that's another story. Hopefully the ticket sales will help us with that.

And to add to the stress, I've got this migraine that won't go away, plus my left ankle hasn't been the same since last week, and I can't figure out why.

Hahaha, funny thing about the other day was that Sir Jay held our Tecthe4 class at the Onstage theater. I guess because he was busy with a show, he took us there so we can explore everything on our own and ask the techies about the lighting, sound, and video equipment. Ahahaha, most of the tech manongs there were the same guys I was with for the Akafellas stint. When Kathy, Anthony and I went to the dimmer racks, we looked for the someone to ask about it, and the first person we found was Kuya Boy, the guy who was with me at the lighting console. Then when we were just sitting around at the audience area when our 3 hours were up, the guys at the tech booth with Sir Jay decided to play around and got the 2 intelligent lights hanging over us to shine on Kathy, Anthony (with girlfriend Cha) and me, complete with gobos and different colors. Then ayan, when we went back up to Sir Jay, medyo nabuking ako when the guys said that I was working with them for the concert. Ahahaha.

I managed to squeeze in some quality time with friends yesterday, though. Lunch with Ari (hahaha, I had a craving for pesto, so good thing we decided to go to the Venue), and then I met up with Maika, whom I haven't seen in months. Teeheehee, and now without her braces, blooming sya! Wahahaha... I had a craving for blueberry cheesecake when we stepped into Red Ribbon, but there weren't any slices left, darn.

What is it with all these cravings? I'm still craving for the cheesecake. Maybe lunch with Rosa before rehearsal this afternoon will help.

I'm so harassed. I've never felt so stressed in my life.

For the past couple of days, I almost felt like breaking down because of some screw-up that I or someone else made.

"You're lucky you're not working with Bibot right now, otherwise you wouldn't be smiling..."

    Gak.

The run-throughs are getting better. But still needs more improvement. I always feel like I can't breathe every time I sit next to Miss Cindy.

And here's a bit o'news. While we were having dinner this evening, Rosch finally confirmed that she really can't perform on Thursday. Then all heads turned to me. Gak (again). Here comes another huge challenge.

To the entire cast and crew of Four's Company's Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, BREAK A LEG!

Four's Company's Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat closed last night. Finally.

This week has been so crazy. Raised voices, muttered snide comments, laughter, and tears.

I once heard Anthony tell me backstage, "Never again." No more full-scale productions as producers. It does show how much our group enjoys the artistic part rather than the production side.

When we opened last Wednesday afternoon, much to our disappointment, the audience were so few. Yet, our classmates who came to support us were laughing their asses off in the front row when they found out that it was Sir Manolet singing "Canaan Days" as his cameo appearance. The evening was better, the audience more responsive. Including my parents. Hahaha, because Sir Jethro had to leave for the evening, I had to do the voiceover at the beginning of the show. And my mom was so amused at Rian as the Pharaoh and Robert as one of the Narrators that she came up to them after the show to introduce herself.

As for our Josephs... Ryan was feeling sort of sick already during the morning, so when he opened the show in the afternoon, I heard a piyok during one of his solos. Altair naman, he was finally hitting all the right notes, much to our relief. But during the big solo ("Close Every Door"), we all heard this uber I-can't-help-but-notice-that piyok. Oh well.

It was so surprising to hear some words from Miss Cindy after the evening show... "You did me proud." Do my ears deceive me? Hahahaha.

Yesterday, the cast did so much better. But Ryan was sick and was already losing his voice, so not only did Henry had to play Joseph during the afternoon, but he also had to take over as Joseph for the closing show. Personally, among the 3 Josephs, judging by voice, he has my vote. Altair has this tendency to go flat, and Ryan's voice is too overpowering. But of course, when it comes to Henry's enunciation, it sounds sablay at times. "Guards! Sez him! Lock him in a cell!" Wahahahahaha! Oist! It's SEIZE, not SEZ!

Then there was some conflict between our director and some cast members before the evening show started. Some people were already ready to lash out because of some attitude problems, even Rain, so I was took aside by one of the cast because he said I could be more calm and level-headed for the confrontation. CALM? LEVEL-HEADED? I was almost in tears even before the problem started because I was sort of anticipating it already.

But of course, "the show must go on." Someone didn't go on as planned, but we had to remedy it by getting the brothers to strut their stuff. And to think that the EVP was watching. But the audience actually loved it. I myself was pounding the platform with my hand to keep myself from laughing out loud backstage.

To keep myself sane, I just goofed around backstage while the cast was performing. Danced along to the music with the crew on stage left, nyahahaha... Even attempted to crawl along with the cast during "Close Every Door" because I was already wearing my black hooded jacket. But of course, I couldn't do any real playtime because the show was being documented by the LRC.

After the show, strike as usual, counted our money, talked about debts. Then I hung out with some of the cast, along with Anthony and Cris at House Blend afterward. When the place closed, Anthony, Cris, Drei and I went to Jarrdy's, but then the rest wanted to go to a videoke somewhere in Malate. I opted not to go because I felt drained that I needed to go home.

During the ride back home, I remembered what Cris said while we were walking to Jarrdy's. "Now what am I going to do from 6:00-9:00 every evening?"

    Exactly.

I fell in love with the entire cast. Now it's all over.

May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
    Still hesitating
    Any dream will do...

To the cast and crew of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, CONGRATULATIONS! Four's Company's thesis wouldn't have been such a blast without you guys!

Hahahaha, I"m still wondering what I'd do during my evenings for the rest of this term. No matter how much time-consuming evenings were for thesis, I'm gonna miss those evenings.

We had a little cast get-together last night at Greenbelt, hopping from one place to another. Food Choices, Cafe Bola, Uva, Club V (though we only made it to the parking lot because some of us didn't want to go to loud places, including me), and finally settling at Starbucks 6750.

Hard to believe that it's all over.

But here's something. We might restage the whole production in September at St Scholastica! Restaging is cool, but I sure hope we'll just be doing all the artistic stuff. I'm tired of production work.

Hahaha, I still can't get over what we did at Starbucks at 3 in the morning. Because some of the cast sang the entire Act 1 the other night while they were at a karaoke place, we decided to sing Act 2 then. Hahaha, some of the guys even imitated how Henry sang his lyrics, so we had to laugh when we came to the ending of "Who's The Thief?" because we still imitated his "SEZ him!"
Henry: Canadian version nga yun eh!

    Wahahahaha...

I'm gonna miss this crazy bunch.

I just want to thank everyone who congratulated and supported us. This thesis wouldn't have been possible without you guys.
